fed-ex wil only pay the amount insured~ I seriously doubt a fed-ex worker would make a sig req drop without a sig~ get everything in writing and record your calls...
Along the same lines as what Joe was saying, I'd recommend also filing a report with the police. I would think that someone stealing a package worth that much would classify as a felony.
I would be surprised if Heritage uses Fedex extra insurance as private companies can offer the insurance at much lower rates to the shipper. Many Ebay shippers use private insurance as they seem less difficult to work with a problem than UPS, USPS, or FX. Heritage will probably ( after a period of legal chitchat) reimburse you. Ask for some freebies such as reduced % inthe next auction, or FREE SHIPPING Jim
Thanks everyone. This is the first time I had anything of this value shipped anything other than registered mail. Heritage just sent me an invoice with the shipping and handeling charges. I just assumed that they would ship insured, safe and secure. I was actually expecting a registered mail package and that is why I did not sweat after over a week of waiting. What I don't understand is why they would only insure for 100 dollars. If I had known this I would have insisted on insuring for the full amount. My hope is they must have a private insurance company. If they don't take care of this i'm gonna make a lot of noise. This is really about 20 percent of my entire net worth. If they think i'm just gonna sit back and just take an apology then they must be smoking something.
Actually Richard, I think the balls in their court....they're the one that insured it. It's their responsibility.
Not Very Funny........IMO I was thinking I could make some $$$ sending small packages full of paper (nothing) and insuring it for the maximum and hopefully one of them would not deliver. But that was just a tought.[/quote
And of course notify your local coin dealers, since whomever got it will likely try to fence it. A ridiculous statement, I worked in a well paying job for a petroleum refiner, I moved often with the company, and ended up renting apartments because it would have been stupid to buy a house and turn around and try to sell it 9 months or a year later. I did buy a house the first time, took a wash, and never did it again. Thereafter it was apartments for me. Most of my neighbours were either airline or oil company employees too.
Tough times to be putting 20% of your net worth into coins. If you own gold, it's good but it's tough to be buying this high...bummer. Hopefully. your other 80% wasn't in the stock market.
So you're saying maybe I could dispute the bank wire but it may not be wise to do so because I may **** off Heritage? I'm not that big of a customer so probably the bottom line to them is that they don't care if they lose my business.
I won my first Heritage auction 3 weeks ago and on Tuesday I won another, so I called them to find out if my first one had shipped yet and it hadn't so I took advantage of it and had them combine the shipments and saved a few bucks. While I would have preferred to already have my first items by then/now, I knew going in that Heritage is known for taking a long time to ship stuff so as far as I'm concerned, it worked to my advantage. The only problem, what if it takes them as long to combine my last won item to my first ones, as it would have taken for them to ship my first items? If that's the case, then I might get them sometime next month? :goof: Ribbit
His statement isn't THAT ridiculous, it just isn't for you. Obviously if you are moving every 9 months to a year it would be stupid to buy a house so apartments are perfect for you and your life style. If you plan on staying 3-5 years, a house would be a serious consideration depending upon the city and market. The poster had no knowledge on whether the OP was a transient worker or not so it's only ridiculous from your perspective.
Call your bank this very minute and stop that charge. Do not hesitate. Oh bank wire, ouch. lesson: use a credit card. It is surprising how they change their tone when they realize that the charge was stopped.
WHO INFORMED FEDEX TO INSURE IT FOR ONLY $100? SOMETHING SMELLS HERE. THIS IS TOTALLY NEGLIGENCE ON THEIR PART. aaaarggh#@. keep at them like a hunting tiger. Good luck. This happened to me shipping Christmas gifts and they were insured too via US Postal Service. Son never got them. USPS NEVER PAID OFF. zg
Right, I agree it's negligence. The point is i'm stuck with the hundred bucks of insurance money. I'm going to report all the serial numbers to NGC Monday morning, go to all the pawn shops in my area and inform them. This may not help me but will get one junkie or possibly even a FedEx employee termed. I spoke with a dealer friend of mine and was told that they actually had "too many" FedEx packages go missing. They dont' use them anymore but actually think the driver was the the reason for the missing packages.
I don't see how you won't get your money back. It's the responsibility of the seller to get the coins you purchased safely to you. They didn't. The delivery person was very negligent in leaving a package that required a signature in the doorway in an apartment building or anywhere else for that matter. If the package had some weight to it and it stated Heritage on it there may be an opportunistic delivery person involved. (Just speculation) I know you're upset but listen to some of the good advice you've heard from the posts above. 1- Contact the Police immediately. 2- Contact Pawn shops, jewelry shops and of course Coin shops in your area. Even if it's only by phone. 3- Be relentless with Heritage and do not let them get away with going the cheap shipping route. 4- Keep an eye on you neighbors who know you are a numismatist and maybe knew you were looking to buy something soon. (A little paranoia doesn't hurt). 5= Don't stress out. Think positive and Heritage will come through. Now say that 3 times quietly to yourself. Good luck Bruce
I don't think it matters wherever you live at this moment, your house is worth less than it was 3-5 years ago. In some areas of the country, NE US etc. houses can be worth less than 10 years ago. Different people have different reasons for their living arrangements, and it is ridiculous to suggest someone should NOT live in an apartment not knowing why they did. Besides right now is not the time to buy a house, have you been tracking the value of homes lately? They keep going down, and probably will for at least the next couple of years. I want to buy another house, but I believe the prices are still headed downwards yet. There are plenty of McMansions around here going for less less less everyday. It is just a question of finding the one I want.
