Getting my items delivered via the USPS to my P.O. Box has worked very well for me.

There's a happy ending! Sooo, it looks like DHL outsources at least some of their packages to German Post. Slow, but that's a much better (for me) option than straight DHL.

The coin was packed really well and my inexpensive guinea pig is beautiful :D:joyful:. I never had any doubts about the dealer or the quality of teh coin; I just have been so burned by private shippers that I was very skittish.

The coin was around 130 Euros. I wonder what the threshold of outsourcing is? I think I might still have to send a gold coin to a trusted dealer and have him mail it to me. Knowing my luck the gold coin would be sent straight DHL and dumped at the door. But so far DHL is 1/1.

But I'm now at ease in ordering coins up to a certain price from the dealer. I don't have to outsource that. I also don't have to be nervous; I'll just expect it to take a while.

Now we'll see if teh Netherlands comes through.

I didn't know exactly what to expect from the Gordian Sestertius; whether it would be aqua or not. It's a glossy jade green patina, really quite nice for 130 Euros. A pretty nice test subject.

    That deserves an elated mood.

Oops, it was 120 Euros. Same difference. The exquisite patina makes what would be an ok coin had it a regular patina into a stunner. Looking at it under stronger light, it's really closer to what the photo shows; on the darker range of aqua.

There must be something about Gordian and lovely patinas. I have another Sestertius with a lovely misty aqua patina and a Balkan AE with an aqua-blue patina. This patina would be worthy of being in that Italian coffee table patina book.

Here I go again; DHL from NeroNumi :wideyed::wacky:. This one's a totally inexpensive coin so no point in fussing over this one. It will be an interesting and cheap experiment to see if they honor my reasonable and easy (put package in certain place) request on DHL's website.

Or it might be an experiment to see if all DHL shipments to my area are converted to post. So I should expect it to take a month and I shouldn't sweat it if it takes 2-3 weeks.

I almost went with a coin from a vcoins UAE dealer whom I am totally unfamiliar with. They offer registered mail.

DHL and the regular German postal service are the same thing, from my understanding. If you are in the United States and a package is sent by any form of DHL service other than DHL Express (including what they call "expedited" service), it take a long time to arrive in the USA, and will be turned over to the US Post Office upon its arrival for further processing and delivery. Only DHL Express handles the package all the way through delivery, and I have received DHL Express packages from Europe within 48-72 hours.

    Ah, many thanks!

So that means that an expensive (>$500) coin from Germany would be sent the same way the $130 one was? That would save me an extra fee and trouble to have the package re-routed.

Previous threads have warned about DHL 'phantom' extra costs? Is this something which happens at the time or purchase or do I have to worry about it after the fact?

I am very pleased to add the German firm to my comfortable-to-buy-from list.

I'm still waiting on the firm from the Netherlands. I wonder what the general shipping time is from the Netherlands? Some customs are faster than others.

Hmm, I can hear the postman. I know when he's coming two or three streets away - the distinct sound of the motor. It's not a hideously loud motor - the sound just carries.

I ordered a coin from NeroNumi Thursday or Friday and it's here today (Wed). :wideyed: Very fast.

DHL Express didn't do a signature (disappointing) but they put it where I asked them to, so it's a success. Would I order a $1,000 coin via DHL Express? No, but I'm comfortable now at ones below 300.

Biga finally arrived (4 days away from a month). I think it was slow post/customs rather than their fault. But that's ok; I'll just know that the next order will take a while. The tiny ants seem to have nested in my mailbox again :wideyed::wideyed:. Why do they love my mailbox?:mad::yuck:

Ick, I fell victim to the dreaded DHL phone number.

I had ordered some coins via DHL Express (always did mail fromthat vendor before) last week, because I'm off this week. I also wanted to do another test round for DHL and be able to see what happens. A couple of days ago, I notice an email in my junk folder (that email was also the one they send the unwanted and frequent new coins email). They need the phone number for the DHL courier.

I didn't hear anything until an automated DHL alert - the package has just been sent. (Droopy Dog voice), Yay!

It's one of life's annoying things (although a 9/10 on the annoying scale) and will soon be forgotten, but I sure won't get it while I'm off. DHL USA doesn't deliver Saturday (at least, they didn't when I checked a month ago - we wouldn't want a convenient day).

They couldn't have made up a number? Unless the number's on my list, or some kind of special event, I don't answer the phone. What useless crap. An email is far more useful than a number.

My first (and only, so far) DHL Express was from NeroNumi, and they didn't need a number. Oh well, at least it won't arrive during the rainstorms today.
