This time, I placed a max bid of $250 (via Bidnapper) expecting that it would be sufficient to guarantee a win. When the auction ended, I was the winner at $48. I saved $102 by losing the first one. The 3-medal sets for the ANA Conventions were only produced 1969-1982, and I decided to go after the entire 14-set series. I was able to get 12 of the remaining sets, 1970-1980 &amp; 1982 within just a few months, but the 1981 proved to be very elusive. Even contacts with other ANA collectors, even the ANA itself, proved fruitless. Finally, almost 5 years later, the 1981 surfaced on eBay, and before any bids were placed, I contacted the seller and &quot;made him an offer that he couldn&#039;t refuse&quot;.
