More Seated Liberty Stuff

Told you this thread would drive me nuts as it's making me look closer. The more I look the more I want but the budget remains the same.

Seated Liberty Quarters from 1879-1889. Mintages under 15,000 for the most part. F12 retail starting at about $285 depending on date and mint.

Never been big on ANY Seated Liberty stuff (exept 20 Cent Pieces I reckon) but may have to start.

Just added to my 20 Cent Collection BTW. If I get a decent pic I'll share.

OOO! I got another one.... Later date 3 cent silvers, 5000> mintages, yet you can get MS examples for around 900.

 

My choice of course is not of actual coinage, but with tokens that circulated perhaps even more than the regular coinage of the time.

I think that most cwts are a terrific bargain, with roughly 70% of the over 11,000 varieties having known populations of 20 or less, yet some in that rarity range list for only $30 in Unc. Some single digit pop. CW tokens list for as low as $40 in Unc. With the 150th anniversary of the Civil War just a few years away, I expect interest in these items to increase, and it would not take much of a collector influx to make a significant impact on pricing.

 

1875 3CN (much scarcer than most realize)

 

The 1875 .20 cent piece. They can be had a a good value.

 

As a collector of Peace Dollars I feel the whole series is undervalued, however the coins from 1927 any mint mark, even the P seem to be very difficult to find and the 27 P seems to be undervalued in higher grades to the others 27's.

 

i think the most undervalued coin i have is a 1924S peace dollar i got for $15. i think i'm going to buy a couple 1934 1927, and 1927S peace dollars and keep them a while and see what happens!

Peace Dollars, Peace Dollars and more Peace Dollars. I am concentrating on the San Fran mint.

She is a good looking chick and the Eagle has a sly and mischievious look.

 

I agree with many of the posts. The two that came to mind for me are the 1927 P Peace Dollar and the 1914s Barber quarter. The good thing is that I have one of each

A lot of the series that I think are undervalued have been mentioned as well... the 3c silvers, half dimes, etc.

 

I don't believe any older coins are under valued. They've been around a long time, so prices are established. Short of significant increases in demand, their prices will not change significantly. What does occur often is the older they get, the less they are in demand, as they are only collected as type coins. On the other hand, modern satin finish coins (matte proofs) have yet to see their potential based on their low mintages and the ability of collectors to put together a set at reasonable prices.

 

Gotta go with the Satin finish cents. 2006, 07, 08, 09 are all under a million. 2008 and 2009 have a mintage of LT the 1931s. The 2008 is 754,755 and is now the 2nd&3rd lowest mintage of the Lincoln series. I really like the 2009 8 copper coins is 4th thru 11th with a mintage of 774,844. The coin is easy to identify 3.1 grams and is a type coin. I also think the 2010 will have a lower mintage I'm currently guessing 550,000

 

Every common-date Morgan in MS64DMPL or better.

The 2008's are 745k. Which Memorial has a lower mintage? Oh I see, you said the whole Lincoln series, not just Memorials.

1928 large S Lincoln. Completely ignored and unloved, yet a tough coin, especially in MS.

Yep, what's debated in the past doesn't change. lol

 

I don't know that the 14S quarter is undervalued, its pretty pricey don't you think?
