Salty, many thanks for showing us your fractional notes. I eyeballed them and they look so good. I will continue to study them.
The paper on some of them, was it made from rags? On two of your notes it looks as if they are covered in fine hairs. Is this true or is it really hair statically attracted to the notes? These notes are truly historic. It's a shame they are not commonly known just for that history. Your notes all seem to be worth submitting to me. Thanks again for the pleasure of viewing them.

    zekeguzz;

The "hairs" are actually colored fibers in the paper. This was intentional and was made more visible on certain portions of the notes as opposed to the complete note. There were different colors of fibers on many of the series. This was part of a security feature to prevent counterfeiting. They also used various ink colors within a series and on different issues. There is much more than even this in distinguishing the different varieties. I would recommend a book called: United States Paper Money. It lists all the different varieties there are, plate number combination's and printing variations for all these notes. There are many more than you first realize. As far as grading, several of these notes have already been submitted and that is how I purchased them. Yours are in excellent condition as well and I would feel they both would achieve a high grade. I am from the old school in as much as many of my notes and my coins are in the raw state. I would guess close to 70 percent. As a collector, resale is not a motivation to me, and my collection will probably stay in my family after inheritance. Being so, I leave the grading decisions to these others.

Perhaps this weekend when I have more time, I will go through my photographs and find more fractionals. If so, I'll post several others for you.

That would be great to see more notes. I'll look more closely and see if I can find how many different colors and variations there are even on one note. Both fifteen cent notes you show I see at least three colors without mag. For a whole series there most be four times that.
I'll be checking that book out very soon. I'm hoping it has good pictures on good paper. Thanks for the heads up on it.

    Hello Gentlemen:

If you really want to get into fractionals, then might I suggest the F.C.C.B. (known as the Fraction Currency Collectors Board) with membership you get the best book on these wonderful small notes, Milton R. Friedburg's " The Encyclopedia of United States Postage and Fracrtional Currency"

Although I sold my completed 4th and 5th Issue fractionals, I still find myself going to this book for information different varieties.
Just thought I would share some interesting info with you.

Holy Cow! I just checked my order status for my two notes, post#12. PCGS Currency just shipped them out today. No pictures were available as it was economy class and I wanted to keep costs low.
The FR1230 First Issue 5 Cent Fractional Note graded: Green61PPQ.
The FR1242 First Issue 10 Cent Fractional Note graded: Green58PPQ.
What does ' Green ' mean? Uh, uncirculated or like new? Anyway these grades were beyond my expectations. I will post pics when I receive them. Thanks everyone.
Oh, does anyone know how to make a ' cent sign '? What keys are used? Thanks everyone.

The "Green" means the back is green. There are red backs too.

Nice score on the grades for those notes. For a cent sign, I just use the lower case C immeadiatley after the numeric value, 5c, 1c, 25c, ect....

WOW finalkly someone started a thread like this :) I love fractionals and have quite a few. The ones I have were found in an old book in an envelope marked 1877. Inside were about 10 first issue notes with 1 second issue. And the denominations ranged from 50 cents to 5 cents and I even found a 50 cent first issue inverted back with only 4 known to exist  in 60-63 condition!!!! I will take pics when I geet the chance. My favorite is the Lincoln 50 cent note which I think is 4th issue but I could be wrong.

USS656 did you purposefully leave the reverses inverted or is that the way they appear when you flip the notes over.
    Mighty nice looking ones too.

Well here they finally are after 3 1/2 months at PCGS Currency. They never sent me an email and a tracking # or updated their " My Order Status " saying "shipped". They just arrived today by Reg. U.S.Mail.
I know all of you have seen first issue 5 and 10 cent notes before but these are my very first notes. I'm very happy with the grading of them:
Why the ' NEW ' above the grades?

Nice notes and they graded fairly high as well. The "New" is attached since PCGS grading scale puts that in for notes that grade between 50-70. You have grades on the scale from About New 50 to Perfect New 70. A 60 to 62 fits into plain "New" category.

Thanks Dr.Kegg. As a side note, it took me hours to get the colors as close to real on the above scans. So due to a ton of editing the notes look okay but the PCGS green labels change tones.
I couldn't get both correct for the life of me. And now that I think about it I've got to be doing something wrong. Maybe I should have used my camera but that's set up for coins.

if its was more commonly known as uncirculated, why did they make it "New". I dont like that and its those little things that make me prefer PMG.

I agree vdb, I think that PMG's grading system makes more sense. Plus, i am a little biased here, but I like PMG more as well.
