I have completed many sets over the years (Lincolns, Indianheads, two cent, three cent silver, all but two three cent nickel, shield , V, Buffalo, and Jefferson nickels, all but three seated half dimes, all but two mercuries, roosevelts, Washingtons, Kennedys, and Ikes) But the set I have enjoyed the most and have worked on the longest is my die variety set of early date large cents. I currently have about 257 of the 295 Sheldon numbered varieties. I lack seven varieties of being complete from 1795 to 1814.

Well I would say that I am a "serious" collector, at least by my standards but I don't have any problem with circulated coins. The average grade of my large cent collection is G-4. Personally if a collector poo-poos circulated coins then, unless they strictly collect moderns, I figure they probably aren't serious collectors. Just someone with money that happens to like coins.
