First coin is an 1820 Large Cent, N-13, NGC MS-62. Second coin is a pseudo-knife coin issued by the Han usurper Wang Mang. It was used in a program to strip the nobles of their wealth and power, meaning it was at one time owned by an ancient Chinese noble. It has a very old provenance and I purchased it from a good friend. A similar example just sold yesterday for over $10000. You would have learned all about it in my exhibit at FUN. The third coin was an image added by mistake. Yay glitchy phones!! See above
Ahhhh! Thank you. Yes it is. BTW, could you please give us a little info on your favorite coin? I'm guessing it's Chinese, but other than that I haven't a clue. It's a fun piece.
I have two or three favorites, and this one is usually one of them. After I got back into collecting I discovered a strong family connection to the Pilgrim Commemorative that I wasn't previously aware of. Cyrus Dallin, the designer of the coin, is my first cousin, 4 times removed. He was a sculptor in the Boston area and did a number of recognized works including the Indian statue "Appeal to the Great Spirit" and the Paul Revere statue on the Freedom Trail in Boston. I've owned a few of them, but one day this showed up on a dealer's website. It's in a PCGS OGH holder: If you forced me to pick just one, it would be this one. It gets shared a little too often probably, but it's just so darn fun to look at.
LOL......nothing wrong with yours though. The unslabbed one I bought when I was just getting back into collecting, and I suspect it has a bit of a douche. I'll see if I can locate the two tomorrow.
This coin could be used to define coin collecting. An absolute beauty, a stunner, luster like a shag carpet - and that's the reverse! I think I will save that picture and before I buy any coin, open it up, do a side by side and ask myself if I really want something that is not that.
I posted one of my favorites early in this thread. Since I couldn't narrow it down to just one, like many other posters, I'll add this one as my favorite for today.
