I went through this thread and am sorry to say it's boring...
In the way of not shocking anyone, we become blind to many really artistic works showing human bodies. Of course, in the old Europe we don't see things the same than in the USA, hence I won't override, but still find it's a pity.

I'm note sure for the others, but in that website, all spintriae photographed on the red table, are modern reproductions.

I wanted to show a genuine spintria, but I understand this would infringe the forum rules.

Perhaps a review of the rules are in order. Not saying we go all out and start cussing and posting porn, but a lil less restraint would be a bit more 2012 lil less 1950. After all most of us probably were not even alive in the 50s lol.

Actually the drawing shows the design better than the minted coin - see attached image. In 2008 several euro countries issued €2 commems on this occasion, the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The others (BE, FI, PT) have different designs though.

Side note regarding "rules": Publishers of European political magazines cannot even have certain front pages in the iTunes store example (or have to use black censorship bars), as Apple applies its house rules worldwide. No idea whether it would tolerate these images. :D

Leave it to the Italians to think human rights involve drinking champagne and throwing a wild party ;)

Errm, barbed wire is not quite the same as champagne. :p Such abstract themes are always a little more difficult to turn into coin designs than anniversaries of famous people. It may be a little difficult to "decipher" what is depicted; here is a brief description: http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=OJ:C:2008:089:0010:0010:EN:PDF The Finnish coin shows a heart "scratched" into a wall, the Portuguese one shows pages representing the articles of the Declaration, and the Belgian one shows the jubilee logo.

For the Dalí Year in 2004, Spain issued several collector coins. Won't post the pics directly, but the Spanish Mint has images here: http://www.fnmt.es/content/imagenes/mmcc/04/dali/plata_leda_alta.jpg (one of the €10 pieces, "Leda atómica") / http://www.fnmt.es/content/imagenes/mmcc/04/dali/cincuentin_alta.jpg (€50, with the "Dream Caused by the Flight ...")

well if that is barbwire, they need to do something more appropriate. Actually, i can't see how Human Rights and Barb Wire are synonymous .

Barbed wire is a symbol of oppression.... as seen on the Amnesty international logo.

I'd really like to get one of those - have to keep my eye out. I haven't really looked for Euro's in collectible grade before. How are the proof sets done? Are there country specific sets, or sets with all of a single denomination, or what?

As the coins are not issued by one central body, the sets (at least the officially issued ones) are country specific. Most member states issue a set with all eight denominations every year, regardless of whether all denominations are actually made for circulation in that year or not. Sometimes those €2 commems are part of such a set, and sometimes they are not. :)

OK - I've given this a lot of thought. i traveled down toe Rock Plaza to see all the art decco sculpture and painting. And I've come to the conclusion, and this is just one mans opinion, that i like the Latvian Pig much more.

I can never seem to detect sarcasm on the Internet, so please forgive me if your post was in jest...

I don't know of any official government issued coins that contain non-artistic nudes on them. I am aware of nudie coins out there that were issued by non-governmental entities that are vulgar and offensive and would not be appropriate to post in this forum.

If you're only interested in 2 euro commemorative coins, you can buy most of them separately, by rolls, in UNC grade.
The price, for the most, is a bit more of the facial value, € 3.50-5.00 (this in Italy/Europe).
The exceptions are the small countries, as Vatican, Repubblica di San Marino, Monaco. For this countries the 2 euro coins are only available in Mint's packs, and the price is significantly higher.

In those website, one official of ECB, the other from wikipedia.it, you can find a lot of photos for 2 euro coins
