How about this Fyi there is another variant of this coin which i have been looking for to finish that set.
Identical to mine except mine is 100 pesetas with a spot of heavy toning damage on the obverse. Fortunately, the reverse with Francisco Goya's art is not damaged.
Another ancient one.... "Venus, nude with drapery falling below hips, standing with back turned, head right, resting left arm on low column, holding an apple in extended right hand and palm, sloping upward to left in left hand: coil of drapery falls over column" from a denarius of Julia Domna, minted in Alexandria in Egypt in around A.D. 194. Martin
Perhaps not what was originally being sought for but here is another ancient nude. Naked bull wrestling was a rite of passage in some Greek communities..... Minted in Thessaly, Larissa from .c. 440-400 B.C. Regards, Martin
Full frontal of Apollo This Gallienus AE Antoninianus has a full frontal of Apollo. It was minted sometime between 253-268 AD. Somehow I doubt that the coin designer anticipated that his work would be published in this Cointalk thread.
There are also several 1910's-1930's art deco medals that I think are absolutely stunning. They manage to get muscle tone and physical structure just right, without coming across as caricatures or anatomical diagrams. Here's one from the Belgian Congo that combines an interesting mix of scenery with human figures, and has both stylized drapery over the female form and a slave "freed" from bondage (which is a bit twisted if you know anything of the history of the Belgian Congo):
I wish this was a 1916!!! There so many nice World + US coins that have been made. 1st I still have say Standing Liberty Quarter 2nd 1890-1927 Italian& Swiss coins are the top 2
The medal is extremely rare, perhaps a few dozen outside of museum collections. 1828 medal by Anton Bovy as an apprentice under James Pradier in Paris at Studio Pradier. Bovy went on to become the leading designer of Swiss shooting medals later in the 19th century. The medal of Aphordite was one of his very early works. The Benin coin is part of a 3 coin series, this being the middle or crown sized coin of the trio.
The Mexican Libertad was love at first sight for me because of the, should I say, "high relief features" on the coin. After seeing this thread, my horizons have been expanded.
