At the risk of violating 1950's TV rules, I'd like to have a mature discussion about your favorite coins and medals that celebrate the human body. The fact is that many world coins and medals would have run afoul of Norman Rockwell's visual code (especially Roman and Greek designs, which many recognize as Classical art these days). As this thread has the potential to offend the moderators, I ask that everyone be on their best behavior and avoid juvenile or puerile comments. What are your favorite coins and medals with a bit of skin and scandal?
I'm pretty sure that this discussion has been attempted in the past, without success. It's not very rewarding to have the discussion without pictures, and the forum rules about such things are quite firm.
You're right. But then that is because somebody just can't resist going beyond the boundaries of good taste. If somebody post a pic of the fertility god coin, yeah, you bet that one's gonna be deleted. But post pics of coins, or notes, in good taste - nobody will ever say a word
Really? I was remembering that even images like the banknote above were getting shot down. I'd be happy to be wrong. I've never much liked the Standing Liberty design; I do love the St. Gaudens design, but since that's not at all nude, I suppose it's off-topic for the thread. I don't have any other examples on hand, but I look forward to seeing what I've been missing...
Can we get some expository info with each post, please? Like, in ikandiggit's post, is that the Horseman of War? (Looks like it could pass for Pestilence, too...)
At FUN this January, I purchased a Dahomey (Benin) 1,000 Franc coin in an NGC PF67 holder. NGC has it mounted so the date & denomination face forward. You need to flip over the slab to view the Somba Woman (Femme Somba).
