This 1976 has a wide rim not sure if its a proof or error . The rim appears to be almost double the size of a normal penny .
Not a proof and not an error coin. It's post mint damage. Looks like what they call a dryer coin. Here are some samples and an explanation.
Welcome to Coin Talk. The Denver Mint did not make Proof coins in 1976. Proof sets that year were minted at San Francisco. Spooning will also cause the rim to look like that. Check out this : https://www.google.com/search?q=spo...rome..69i57.5314j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
I have a few coins that i needed answers to and this forum has helped me a great deal . Thank You All
We're all here to help each other. Coin Talk has some really expert Numismatists (I'm not an expert) and all are willing to help.
I will disagree with you. Dryer coin edges are rounded not flat. What I believe the OP has is a Finned Rim. The Rim is slightly thicker due to a High Pressure Strike.
