That gave me a laugh. No wonder they want $1,200 for it... :D

I should carry a picture of this in my wallet, and if someone ever calls *me* an old fart, I'll just pull the picture out and say, "I don't *think* so".

Joking aside, this is my kind of early Byzantine! :woot: (unfortunately my wallet doesn't agree...)

It's the finest known....but, in my experiences most polite folks never cop to such a thing openly.... ;) The emperor looks like he's in on the gag look at that smirky expression. 14 grams that's a big Fart. I found this coin type listed in SBD.....Stunning.....I am stunned

Surely is an old fart. Good one, only in Ancients would that happen. laughhard.gif

acsearch shows a 20 nummi with mintmark CAR. I wonder if this period was when they were uncertain how they wanted to spell the name on a Latin language coin. They also show a second best grade 40 for almost a thousand less. The problem is I like the style on the lesser coin better. I'm sure there are plenty of people willing to pay the price who don't care about style or agree with my preference.

It may be the finest example known, as Severatus mentions, but I couldn't imagine paying that price for it....I'm 100% with Doug on this one.

it's difficult to see the mint mark on that coin, i believe that is known as a silent FART.

Fantastic Byzantine. Not worth $1200 IMHO, but at a large auction $600 would not surprise me in the least. It's a $300 coin from a common mint.
