Family finds 1 million copper pennies while cleaning out Los Angeles home. Thought this was a unique and interesting article. Family finds 1 million copper pennies while cleaning out Los Angeles home (msn.com)
A million pennies equal $10,000 In my opinion looking at that picture.. That has to be way more than a million pennies. Here is a better website where you don't need to download an application to view the story https://ktla.com/news/california/fa...-pennies-while-cleaning-out-los-angeles-home/
There are some searchers who have gone through twice that much looking for a Copper 1982 D Small Date ... They will never find another!
wow, you could melt 'em and make a bunch of copper swords from that haul !! < waiting for the cringes >
They could take a bag a week to their local CU with a free coin counting machine. I'm sure there's one nearby. Or just pay the 8% to coinstar - they're into it for $0 as it is. I guess this is a warning to those of us that keep every copper cent we find, waiting for the melt ban.
Where's Chris when you need him. It cost too much to refine the copper out of the cents to make a profit. These folks think that they are somehow worth double. It might be worth the effort to separate them into wheats and memorial reverses, then try to make a little profit by filling the $50 dollar bags with the wheats and selling them, then take the memorial minus key dates and send them to the bank for deposit.
Yeah, you can't say that they're worth the same as an equal weight of top-grade copper -- but as long as there's a steady market of people willing to buy at double face, that doesn't really matter. Separating them would certainly yield more money, but it takes LOTS AND LOTS of time. If it's something you enjoy, that's further profit! If not, it's... probably not worthwhile. (We've got a cross-state move happening today, so I'm a little sensitive about the cost and effort of moving large heavy objects. )
A million cents would be about 200 bags. I don't think I could search a bag a day. I don't think the family will have the time.
Just looking at the bags they look to contain rolls of cents. Should be able to move those quickly. A local coin shop would be a better option depending on dates.
How would you represent the dates without first going thru them? By searching them. Thereby defeating the whole premise that a coin shop would be the better option.
"unsearched rolls" after they are searched by someone else, but not by you yet, thus "unsearched (by you) rolls"
I would wonder if there is any 1969 s double dies in the lot being on the west coast. Most know the value of these at $50,000 or more. here is an example of one for those who don't look for varieties https://www.pcgs.com/auctionprices/item/1969-s-1c-doubled-die-obverse-rd/2923/-2345756386617791771
