I've written before that it is not a good idea to authenticate coins from photos; however, as the "experts" have pointed out this coin has enough diagnostics visible on its reverse to be 100% sure it is genuine (Otherwise it is a brand new State-of-the-art counterfeit from transfer dies - unlikely...LOL). The color of the coin and hairlines indicate the surface is not original. The coin is beat up so the "depressions" you see are probably marks from impact.

GDAMSP has done it again: THERE IS SO MUCH CRAP AND MISINFORMATION on many forums that it is often the blind leading the blind. I especially like the posts that begin, "I don't know much about... but this is what I think"

I notice that several of the longtime members know each other. How do we find out who everyone really is? I'm very impressed at the posts here. Perhaps a David Lange, Ken Bressett, Tom Delorey, etc. is hanging out here.

Lol, it's ok. I bid around $1000, which would have been a steal. I am out of the running now, as I do not trust my grading skills based on pics.

I've just spent ten years Moderating a place where this kind of social conflict isn't allowed, and the quality of the knowledge distributed hasn't suffered. All the same, I'm wasting too much effort on that whole thing - especially since I'm just a member here - and I'm gonna shut up about it and just Ignore people.

I must agree on this one, that is basically adding fuel to the fire which is not needed. In no way, shape, or form can accurate knowledge be "distributed" when a pair of members are throwing personal jabs back and forth, that is sheer ignorance on the Mods/Admins part.

The Mods/Admins knowingly letting the issue continue forward and continuing to heat up.... yet the members will get reprimanded for it? Sounds fair to me......

Well if it concerned you so deeply, why didn't you report it? Someone else did @ 12:56, I read the reported thread ( about 8 minutes), and wrote post # 59 in response @ 1:18, Doug wrote his at 1:19, and you say we let it continue forward and heat up? And your post # 67 was written about 6 HOURS after the one ahead of you, about "adding fuel to the fire"??? Sounds Fair to me !

I'm also on the forum where you moderate. I only hang around the foreign coin areas of that forum, so can't speak for the rest of it... but, after 7-8 years on both... that forum is where I go for friendly people and a handful of specialists in some areas of foreign coins. I come here when I need a real world opinion on all fronts from people that really know their stuff, regardless of the tone with which they present it.
This place is great for people that don't get offended easily.

We have rules here Dave, all you have to do is read them. And those rules are enforced, with fairness and equality for each and every member. What makes us different on this forum is those rules. People don't get punished or banned here just because somebody doesn't like them, or because they happen to say something that somebody else doesn't agree with. Members here are free to speak what they believe to be the truth, regardless of whether that "truth" conforms to the "party line" or not. As long as the rules of this forum are followed, well, you can pretty much say what you want to say.

Now I'll grant you not everybody agrees with that. There are a lot of people who have different ideas of what should be allowed or not allowed on coin forums. And they are more than welcome to do things their way on their forums. But, it is the rules of this forum, and the way this forum is run, that is largely responsible for this forum becoming at the least one of if not the biggest and busiest coin forums there is. So somebody sure must like the way we do things around here.

I think we'll keep it that way ;)

Well, in the back of my mind is that my perspective might be a bit skewed by living a G-rated online life for so long. I ain't G-rated in real life, that's for sure. :)

I don't, but apparently you feel differently. Hence the retort.

If an equally large amount of misinformation is/was allowed to go uncountered, you're kidding yourself if you don't think damage is being and/or has been done. Additionally, there's also no way for you or anyone else to factually know what off-forum consequences can and/or have come from it.
