Then you should take a more in-depth look, perhaps even in this very thread. It would be like me saying all you do is complain about poor overseas counterfeits, often attributed as such by nothing other than their "look". Does this define your entire involvement here? Of course not, and just because it's something I've seen from you, I wouldn't be so foolish as to openly assume as much.

With that said, I'm terribly sorry that I do not appreciate being called a liar, and for some crazy reason, I have the feeling you wouldn't like it either.

Fair enough. Double edged word there :)

I sure as heck wouln't like it either.

My thinking behind that is... sometimes the most poignant point is a short and witty one (you can see how this post is an oxymoron to that last sentence). The downside to that being that it usually gives others less insight, the upside being that it makes people less likely to pick a fight because they don't see you as someone that bites the hook. Really a matter of picking the poison I suppose.
I prefer to just present what I know and can provide a sound reasoning/evidence for. And if someone doubts it then I wish them the best of luck. The most wise thing I have ever learned in life is that I may not have learned anything. But that is not up to me to judge.
To quote what is probably some popular recent rap song: "do you and eff them haters".

BooksB4coins..... Most of your statements are rude...

on the rouble.....the person was asking for an opinion.....I gave him mine...he has the right to do with the information as he thinks.also..you never said anything on that thread...never expressed and opinion why you believe it to be fake..I've seen many threads where some think real and some don't...On this thread I probably should have asked for the opinion than making a statement..my mistake....I've owned up to that....on the 41c thread....the hole through me off and the less than obvious C make identification difficult...but in the end I agreed it was real.....and a charlotte coin. you called me a liar...very rude....

then you said you were called a liar....not specifically stated by me but implied....
I never said you a liar....

There is one. Just click on the profile of whoever you want to ignore. Works wonders for my otherwise sunny disposition.

I suppose you're right. Its interesting that stupidity can be both infuriating and infectious.

As for your rap song, I'll just have to take your word for its meaning, or at least the first part anyway. ;)

A level of confrontational behavior which detracts from the quality of the community. This thread is only one of a number of examples currently active.

Ain't my forum, I don't make the rules, and I'm completely unworried about it, except when it gets in the way of me trying to develop new collectors. Then, I get testy. And around here, people are quick to dogpile newbies.

So people should be able to trash a coin as fake and dealer as dishonest because they are relatively new without someone saying something . People should think and check a coin before calling it fake or at least ask a question of what the forum thinks .

There's more than one way to trash a coin. You could do it like you're talking across the dinner table, or you could do it like you're anonymous on the Internet and don't have to answer for your actions.

How often do you discuss with your family whether or not they're liars?

I don't mean you personally - you're not that way - but you know as well as I do that people don't talk to each other this way on the street.

I must agree, potentially ruining a dealer on Ebay simply because a new member is trying to impress is with his "knowledge".... don't buy it.

Funny how I know what you said... you simply don't want to admit wrong. Your comments are plain and simple, of course you said them, Books proved it to you.

Perhaps, Dave, since you care so much about new collectors, you should also care equally about the level of misinformation spewed on this board, including in this very thread, as you seem to about me. Should cheeks be turned when new, old, or in between collectors post things that are potentially harmful to others, all in favor of a little hand holding? Does a newbie that comes to this board know the difference between you or, as an example, some kid who thinks it's fun to pretend? Of course not, yet I don't recall you having much of a problem with that. Well, like it or not, I do. Have you ever personally witnessed the real life damage poor information/advice can cause? I have, and in my experience, this is one the biggest reasons for new collectors leave this hobby. It's wholly unnecessary, especially on a forum such as this, and in my most humble opinion, is what shouldn't be tolerated, especially by those, like yourself, that do care. Perhaps you should consider focusing on that, or perhaps all the immediate schmuckish come-backs to simple questions that happen all day every day, or would that be too difficult?

Oh, and you're not the only one who has ever done anything to, as you put it, "develop new collectors", Dave. There's an entire forum here with many, myself included (believe it or not), who have and try to do the same, and this, of course, isn't taking the real world into consideration. I am damn proud of what I was able to accomplish with new collectors over a 24+ year period, not including here, with new collectors, and felt it was my way of giving back to a hobby that has given me a lot.

I would much appreciate it if you would not pigeon hole my involvement here with your blanket assumptions. Oh, and because you felt it necessary to bring up, I can promise that I would speak to your face the very same as I have on this forum; respect begets respect. Do not question my sincerity, motivations, or commitment to this hobby, sir, especially with sly little jabs, and coming from a position of ignorance. You don't know me.

Ok, someone put it on the radar. I think it is best to stop the personal jabs. The issue of the coin is above verbal discussion decisions. Since no one here seems to be the seller or is indicating they are bidding on it, let it go, and move on to more education. Thanks to ALL who try to impart knowledge and improve the newer member's grasp of numismatics. I will leave the thread open for a short while for constructive posts before closing it. Thanks Jim

Yeah, there are things we allow, and things we do not allow. But a certain level of what you call confrontational behavior needs to be allowed for it is only with disagreement and discussion that knowledge, accurate knowledge, can be distributed.

And quite frankly, the internet, and coin forums in particular, are so full of inaccurate information that I consider it of paramount importance to get the accurate information out there.
