Counterfeiting has been going on for thousands of years I doubt the best efforts of the coin talk community will amount to more then a drop in the bucket.

I only consider negatives being a problem if someone has 96-95% positive feedback. Generally 1 or a few negatives doesn't mean much, considering not all buyers on ebay are honest. Especially if the buyers who are leaving the negatives have questionable feedback themselves, I'm not taking their word on a transaction they likely tried to manipulate.

Of course if someone has dozens of negatives, that's a turn off. But a few is no problem for me. Only look for the repeat offenders who get them in short time frames. Then we know the buyers are actually honest.

After all, I have done flawless transactions with sellers that have received negative. Don't disregard everybody who has less than 100% or 99%.

In reading your post, my first thought on "a drop in the bucket" comment was "Chinese water torture" ... funny and ironic rolled into one...

The 1882 coin is 3.2mm thick so I can confirm it is indeed a fake since a real one is a real one is only 2.4 mm thick. The 1887 coin is extremely close to 2.4 mm so it checks out in terms of thickness. However, it is only 37.83 in diameter when it should be 38.1 mm. Is this close enough sense it has a lot of wear or is this a red flag? The 1882 which we know is a fake is 37.97 mm so its not quite the right size either.

I figured that the thick fake would at least come close to the correct diameter, and it does. I'm going to stick with my gut and say both are fakes.

Only 37.83 in diameter and you can still see the teeth ...?

Oh ok thanks. Yeah you can still see the serrated edge/teeth. Does anyone know where I can buy a 100% genuine Morgan dollar so I can really compare on ebay? I'm am up to 3 morgan dollars now and they all weight different, different sizes, etc. I still believe that one (1882) may be real as it is the right thickness, it just doesn't have the right diameter...
