Sorry for the title. But I'm wondering if anyone has gotten a counterfeit coin from APMEX? It's "not very likely" scenario: 1. They have a LOT to lose if this was found out. 2. I'm pretty sure the "Mint Direct" stuff is probably as safe as you can get, aside from buying directly from the mint. 3. They sell a lot of slabbed items. But "maybe is possible" scenario: 1. According to their web site they do actively buy coins and bars. I can't believe that they have the time and/or manpower to go through thousands upon thousands of say half-dollars, Morgan dollars, and Peace dollars of common dates that are sold "cheaply" in the XF random date category, or miscellaneous 1 ounce bars/rounds. Way back I bought some rolls of "war nickels" and ended up with some Indian Head nickels and one 1990s nickel. I didn't bother to return as at the time silver was maybe $12 an ounce, and the Indians - I mean Indigenous Persons were pretty cool. Nothing fake, but still these were possibly sorted and definitely rolled by a machine vice a person. I'm not even sure if an actual human checks these very low dollar items. I've also gotten a couple questionable coins as far as grade (clearly polished or significant rim dings but those were made right by APMEX). To be fair maybe 2-3 coins out of... LOTS. So, thoughts?
