The contest is simple. Below is the picture. It is up to you to determine the method of trickery. Please post your conclusions with a brief explanation. The only clue I will give you is it is my coin. All you have to work with is the photo. In a addition, post a guess of my Birth year to break the tie if there are multiple correct answers. I will give an update around 6:00 PM tonignt. EDT The person who gets it right wins a Barber Quarter and Dime. Both coins are well worn but have readable dates. Mike
It was a 1948 and they very neatly took part of the 8 apart and turned it into a 3. You were born in 2000......:hail:
I will say that it is a 1943 but is plated with copper. Birth year is 1960. BTW... 2000 birth year? Only 12. You write to well for that.
i'm guessing it's plated,it just looks too clean to be an altered 8 but that's just my opinion. You were born in 1964
I will say that it is plated because the lettering and numbers are too correct to have been the result of a counterfiet die, everything looks too clean to be a cast copy, and the fields around the date do not suggest alteration to me... I guess your birth year is.... 1950!
I'll say it was done with lighting. that's I got my fake one here, by accident, with only low room light, and probably the wrong white balance setting.
I think the first post is correct, but I'll guess that it is an altered 1949. Birth year guess is 1965
spray painted brown birth year = 1990. edit: sort of like rustoleum or just neatly painted it by hand lol!
It seams like one of those coins where they take 2 coins and fuse them together, then copper-plate along with many years of toning... and 1970. And it looks like there is a die crack on the right piece of wheat.
I see a few die cracks that look similar to those on authentic lincolns. Therefore, I will guess that it the date (only the date) was struck over with a die made from a steel cent date.
You altered the date using photoshop or something like pasting (or whatever you call it) the date on top of the original coins date.In other words you used another Wheat cent like 1950, took a photo of it and a 1943 changed the colour of the 1943 date and slapped the 1943 (date) onto the 1950 (covering the 1950`s date), I probably over explained this but there you go! You were born in 1985!! Thanks for the contest :thumb:
