Of course. A few are slabbed, but most are not. Keep in mind, these are pieces of American history, with well documented provenances, not Silver Eagles.
Thanks Jody, Was just a guess I suppose but your explanation drives home the same point. I just questioned both sellers. Was a little tougher on the guy from KY. "Hi, In regards to your silver dollar auctions. For the 1800 you state that it is one of the best you've seen. Do these come your way on a regular basis? Really, an 1800 is hard enough to find but an 1804 (as you have listed) is virtually unattainable. The last legitimate 1804 sold for over 4 million dollars and since the 1800 is one of the best you've seen I might guess that you would know that. Do you have the complete set? Just curious." Think I'll get a reply?
I don't completely agree with that. Feedback is ZERO. He's testing the waters as it were. Knock him down fast so he knows that people actually DO watch. Once a person like this gets away with it enough times then they start to get more confident. An influx of "we know you're a scammer" emails might just make him think twice. My comments might not help but they certainly won't hurt. Either way this rectal wonder is going to try it. I say more people should email him. Make his scamming experience a living hell. Just word it nicely and stay within the rules. Don't just "throw the towel into the ring".
No problem. Be a dull world if everyone was the same. The thing is, the seller isn't the problem. eBay is. As long as it is allowed to host criminal activity, without fear of any consequences, it will continue to do so. It isn't profitable to pull auctions. That would reduce income, and I don't think the majority of shareholders want to see that happen. Sure, it gives lip service to those who try to raise a stink about scams, but lets face it, the only thing they (eBay) understand is m-o-n-e-y. Start hitting them where it hurts, if you want to see results. Don't do business with an outfit that promotes criminal activity. Give your business to those who deserve it.
Now that I agree with you 100%. Just so happens that I filled out an ebay "survey" about an hour ago. It was in response to a "spoof" email that I reported. I specifically asked them for a "real" reponse not a form letter. Well, the response was decent but included a survey which was a "form" survey. A few minute turned into an half an hour. I WAS NOT real pleasant to say the least. I referred to them as Greedbay and also mentioned the two 1804 auctions. Not that they will care but this is how I sometimes do things. I VERY rarely participate on ebay anymore so I don't really care what happens to me. I basically told them what you have just said M-O-N-E-Y. Bet I get a form response thanking me for my opinion.
Yes, I used to fill out those surveys, and then in a few days I'd get a form letter thanking me for my concern, and assuring me that the eBay staff would continue to do everything possible to make eBay a safe and enjoyable trading environment for everyone. As I said before...I don't report scams anymore.
If nothing else, apparently i have started a fire storm on eBay's forum site. Some very interesting comments. Thanks to all who posted. :thumb:
Aiden: Hopefully this will work: http://forums.ebay.com/db1/thread.jspa?forumID=120&threadID=1000511561 Yes, it does.
