Been looking far and wide for any info on this coin, Anyone have any experience with these? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rt=nc&nma=true&_rdc=1&item=200584571526 http://reviews.ebay.com/One-Pound-Silver-bullion-Coins_W0QQugidZ10000000001442180 it isnt marked 1 pound
It doesnt look large enough to be 1lb. I mean look at the size of his carpet in relation to the coin. It looks like the coin is the size of a 1OZ not a 1LB.
that was my initial thought too i found this old listing http://www.jakesmp.com/Silver_Bars/001_Silver_Bar_Master_M.html
I know such bullion medallions exist. Here's one being offered with a 2008 date at far too high a price: http://www.southernnumismatics.com/product_info.php?cPath=63&products_id=219 Remember, there are 12 troy ounces in a troy pound, so at $450 works out to 37.50 per troy ounce.
some info from the seller... Hi, this is not a fake coin. I own over a hundred of these. Each coin is 100% authentic .999 fine silver weighing 13.3 ounces non troy, or 373.214 grams non troy, or twelve ounces Troy equaling one pound Troy. Issued by the washington mint. The ones I have are actual leagl tender that and were purchased from the mint as bullion. It's silver bullion. How could anybody ever get the coin minted and then get it to weigh to the grain exactly what it should if it were "fake"? That said, in all honesty I can scrap these at $410.00 each which is more than I made from selling you one based on the eBay and PayPal fees that I paid. I do understand your concerns but I listed this one as a tester before listing more and I am seeing that it's going to be too much of a hassle. They were very nice and cancled my purchase. Thanks for the info. Just figured I would share for anyone else later on. I just couldnt trust these without the gravity test.
The seller is correct in that it was produced by the Washington mint ( a private for profit mint not associated with the mint of the US Treasury Dept.). Here is a url for a law suit based on a similar coin. I wonder if the seller was aware of these or really innocent? http://www.usps.com/judicial/1989deci/30-42.htm Jim Should add, that this hearing found the "washington Mint" innocent of misleading the public
