Hello, I found this site that has facial reconstruction of Roman Emperors. Thought I would post one. I think together with a coin they would make a nice display. Rich……..Augustus
Link? Is this the same set that was posted here a few months ago, the one that couldn't even manage to give Marcus Aurelius curly hair?
Just copy the url from the address bar at the top of the page of the relevant website, and paste it into a post here. Or do a Google search for "how to copy and paste a link"!
You don't have to do that! I found the link, and I think it's not the same set as the one posted previously: https://www.boredpanda.com/realisti...oogle&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=organic
https://www.boredpanda.com/realisti...oogle&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=organic Not sure who gave them the bust of Gordian 2 with a full head of hair, but he was known to be bald.
Hey, I used to have hair at one time too! Let the man be forever remembered with a full head of hair.
Some of those reconstructions I could identify straight away, but some, not even close. Which is weird because many of us can identify the emperors' coins easily enough because we've seen their portraits countless times. You wouldn't think switching from profile to face-on would make that big of a difference. Or from sculpture to whatever program they were using. Some I think they just got wrong, like Claudius and Otho. Then again, unless we get to hop in a time machine sometime soon, we'll never know for sure.
I guess I don't understand what the big deal is. If the reconstructions are based on statues, why not just use a paint program to add color and details to the statues?
Some of the third century emperors look almost the same. I also don't like the Aurelius. Nice attempt but not perfect - also this was on facebook's ancient and medieval coins group a few months ago. I'm a member of that group and I know some of you are as well.
