I really don't remember, spur of the moment maybe. I will have to think on it a while and get back to ya'.
Mine is a local thing. The city I live in is located where the Erie canal meets the Niagara river. At one time it was the largest lumberport in the world. The dockwallipers were the men that transfered the lumber from the lake ships to the canal boats. So far as I know the word is exclusive to this small area and I just liked the name.
Michael E. Marotta. mmarotta. Since 1984, my username on many systems is mercury, or mercury[something]. Among the oldest continuing is mercury@well.com where WELL is the Whole Earth 'Lectronic Link, an old Unix BBS for the old Whole Earth of the 60s and beyond. But here, and on Coin People, I am mmarotta. I chose the Avatar because I worked on a series of projects for Carl Zeiss, the German optics firm and the coin celebrates Zeiss's invention of the compound microscope.
Mine's simpler... Sylvester, cos i like cats and what's a good cat name, Sylverster! It also sounds a little like Silver and i have a thing about silver. Plus i kinda like the name.
when i was filling out the feilds my daughter happened to be playing with pogs. you know those little milk cap looking things that somehow can be played as a game. it seemed right at the time......
I would never have guessed that!! I still think your avatar should have been on the Alabama quarter. Where is GDJMSP hiding???
A friend of mine had real trouble saying the word 'numismatist' and used a shortened version term to refer to me. It started way back in the 70's when I introduced him to the local coin club. I was one of the youngest club secretaries they ever had
He's right here I just wanted to see if you guys noticed I was gone I think I've explained this before - but my handle is my name - or names I should say. And with a set of initials like that - there's no need for numbers at the end. Because NOBODY is ever gonna have the same set of initials that I do As for the avatar - pretty much the same. It's me
Mine is pretty simple...see that cute kid in my avatar? He took that pic of himself. Being a stay at home Mom you kind of lose your identity, so to all the kids running in & out of my house all day long I'm 'joesmom'.
