Because of the size of the strip, it's probably
better to take a paper towel, or rag, dip it in the acetone,
and wipe the strip, area by area.

You'd need way too much acetone in a bowl to
dip the entire strip, and it would evaporate fairly
    quickly.

I don't think acetone will do squat for the verdigris but it won't hurt.

When people use acetone for coins, do you use a glass or plastic bowl?

Also how long do you leave coins in acetone for?

No plastic. Acetone will melt plastic. I use a stoneware salad plate. It's shallow and wide.

You only need to leave it in the acetone for a few minutes for most gunk removal. Some more stubborn stuff you may want to leave it in overnight or two. Don't let the acetone evaporate before removing the coins. I put coins in a glass with a stoneware plate on top of the glass for long term soaking.

Doesn't really "melt" plastic, but dissolves many plastics. Safer to use glass. I put some in a shot glass then place the shot glass on a jar lid and seal the jar onto the lid upside down...no evaporation since it is a closed container.
