Experiences with consignment/estate auctions

I've only been to one estate auction, I had a few minutes to look at the coins in a badly lit display case beforehand. Several well-worn, common date Morgans went for upwards of $30 each (helped along by a shill in the back); and a frosty Chinese counterfeit sold for $25. I won a lovely cherry mountain dulcimer for about 1/3 of what it's worth, but no coins!
