She was proclaimed Queen on 6 February 1952 following the death of her father, King George VI whilst she was in the African retreat of Treetops – it is said that she went up a Princess and came down a Queen. Her Majesty was formally crowned the next year, on 2 June 1953. Queen Elizabeth’s husband Prince Philip is from the Royal Family of Greece and was created Duke of Edinburgh before his wedding to Princess Elizabeth on the 20th November 1947.
