I've wanted one of these big Republican Janus/Prow's for a long time. Finally found a good one at a great price and with a great provenance! These big coins are usually pretty worn since they circulated for so long. This one still retains a lot of it's original detail and hasn't fallen victim to the dreaded tooling so common on these. It's an Ex-RBW duplicate coin and ex-Peus, auction 330 from 1991. Having a good provenance is becoming increasingly important on these. http://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-152919 P. Cornelius P.f. I've tried to track it down online searching the RBW collection but no matches. Even tried Andrew McCabe's web page with nothing. Anyone have a catalog they could check? Thanks everyone. Oh, and I also saw @Orfew today and had a nice brief chat...
I love those big Janus coins, and having great provenance is a bonus. How much does this one weigh? John

With common bronzes like this RBW often had several duplicates that didn't make it into the big RBW sales: NAC 61 and 63. Duplicates were sold by CNG, Agora Auctions, Amphoracoins(eBay) and Lanz via eBay and possibly others. That's where I'd start looking if you want to find where it was sold from the RBW collection.
Nice one Justin. Always a pleasure Andrew. Thanks Red, I tried NAC 61, 63, McCabe online and CNG. It'll be tough, the RBW collection was huge. I was hoping someone might have the Peus catalog from 91 which is cited on the DM collection tag that was included.
That's a beautiful example! Good luck with your search for a listing. I can very much understand why you were looking out for this particular type. My own Janus/Prow as definitely is one of my favourite coins: Roman Republic, As (uncial standard), 169–158 BC, moneyer: C. Cluvius Saxula, Rome mint. Obv: head of Janus, I above. Rev: prow right, C·SAX (ligated) above, ROMA below. 35 mm, 25.98 g. Ref: Crawford 173/1.
Attractive example, Jay. Congratulations! As @red_spork indicated, the coins sold as "RBW duplicates" are the coins that didn't make it into either NAC sale, so you'll never find them in NAC 63 or NAC 63 or the RBW Book which combines his auction sales. On the bright side, RBW consistently noted acquisition info on his envelopes, so the Peus Auction info is likely correct and was probably carried forward from RBW's coin envelope. Coincidentally, last night I found a Peus Auction 300 (28 Oct 1980) provenance for a Roman Republican bronze that I bought at NYINC. I'm also missing the Peus catalogue that I'll need to confirm the provenance (and look for additional breadcrumbs). If you are an ANS member, one option would be to ask the ANS library staff to send you a scan of the Peus listing. If they have the catalogue, they will honor reasonable requests from members.
