Everything you wanted to know about Icelandic coins but really aren’t bothered to ask

Considering Iceland's long history, would you mind sharing older coins ? For instance, what was happening in medieval times ?

brilliant thread siggi, i love the icelandic coins and have quite a good collection of them myself, my particular favourites are the sea creatures series.

 

sounds like it would have reverted to Danish coins. and tokens

 

The last 1929 2 Krónur was actually found in the US and also the very rare 1940 proof set. These are off course owned by my friend Icemand57. Iceland does not really have key dates with coins from the republic era (1942-1980) There are some that should have been key dates bug becuase of the large ammount of collectors they are avalable in UNC in bulk. Like the 1973 50 Krónur for instance. But the early dates of the republic coinege has some coins that are very hard to find in UNC BU. I will go deeper into that later in this post

The 1940 Proof set from 1Eyrir to 25 Aurar are very rare with only three set's in public hands with one of those sets missing the 1 Eyrir in US.
The Icelandic Numismatic collection has 2 sets.
