I got a penny/cent as my avatar too. Had the same pic up since I joined and I picked it because it's a great photo of a great coin and it's from 1909
Lol Bunny cent. I don't have a avatar as a penny but better yet, Pikachu. I don't use coins as a avatar, I like to stick out of the crowd so I picked Pikachu.
Guilty as charged Though once I get my order in I'll be changing it to a penny with a clover on it, like that guys bunny-penny. I'm getting some that say 'I love you' on the coin, know a few coin collecting ladies that'll dig it Also, DUDE JELLO!!! Where did you get the half cent??? Awesome!!! But seriously... what is the difference between a penny and a cent? o.o
Or, penny is the word for a coin with the value of one cent in the U.S. That would fit with nickel, which we use regularly to describe the U.S. five cent piece.
Say I How about a 1/3 Cent (Or around there). This is one type of denominations that I collect in Error Coins.
My avatar is a Civil War token, but the ready acceptance of them is why the government changed the composition of our small cents to bronze from copper-nickel. I chose this particular cwt merchant/issuer as he is a distant ancestor. This token is rather scarce, with an R-8 rarity (5-10 known). I have 5 of his 15 varieties.
"Penny" is a commonly-used synonym for "cent". It's pedantic to insist people only use the latter. Not only that, it goes against the more common usage; few people outside the collecting fraternity would call them "cents". It's pretty much a centsless argument.
