Reminds me of another story. Years ago, my grandfather owned a bar and a glass of beer was 50 cents. It was a small town bar and he always had the same regulars come in. Being a well know practical joker, he attached a nail to the bottom of a half dollar and pounded it into the floor just outside the bathroom door. According to my father, it gave his dad hours of amusement watching his intoxicated patrons try and get the coin so they could buy another beer.

But...where are you going to find any place with that many cents around? LOL! I was quite happy recently, I found a dime. That's pretty rare but I have found 2 ground dimes in 2009. Not a single nickel or quarter, and I've lost track of cents. I have picked up every one of them including one that was completly submerged in a puddle. (actually that was last November, but close enough!)

Regarding that Quarter paved into the road...go back again in the middle of summer on the hottest day possible...the heat from the sun will affect the blacktop and you will be able to pry it loose...provided you don't get run over first. That would help

That reminds me of an exchange on the Simpsons. The episode with the tv critic, where Ranier Wolfcastle takes all day to determine that his shoes are not untied, as they are in fact loafers. It made me laugh anyway...

30-45 seconds? one Mississippi... two Mississippi... that's a long time to compute in one's mind.

Me? I almost flip over forward stopping so short to pick one up. I am prepared to play tackle to grab it first as others may be seeing it as well. LOL..

Besides, stopping for such a long period of time (30-45 seconds) as you're walking to or from a store such as Walmart would either get you ran over or cursed out from a-z making this too hazardous as job for most (picking up pennies)

Grab/snatch & roll or look for another line of work. Leave the penny picking up to me...
