"Latin System"? No idea what that is, so I did a brief web search ... and most results seem to be related to "Dance With Lisa". :D

By the way, I don't know how many EU based designers are Coin Talk members, but you can now (until 20 May) submit your design for next year's common issue here: http://www.eurocoin-competition.eu/ Citizens of all euro area member states are invited; whoever wants to participate should be at least 12 years old at the end of this year. Templates can be downloaded from the competition website.

At least the harp design still beats the stuffing out of the Netherlands designs!

One good thing about the Euro is that it saved the French from themselves !!!! Here is one of the last French pre-euro coins. Snails and cold soup anyone ????:foot-mouth:  Perhaps one can be tooooo French !!!! :dead-horse:

Well, not everybody likes coffee that tastes like colored water. (I know, that horse is about as dead as yours. :p ) That 10 francs coin is nice, but I like the "tri-color" 20F piece (Mont-St-Michel type) even better. If we ever get a €5 circulation coin, it should be something like that ... http://www.cointalk.com/t167357/

Well Christian. If the French can not get a tricolor right. Then europa is doomed !!!!

Oh, I am sure they can. But, like pretty much everything else in the euro area, a new denomination would have to be agreed upon by all countries involved. Good luck ...

Later this month (or in early June) the Dutch mint will issue an "Art of Painting" collector coin. Those pieces are legal tender in the issuing member state only. Anyway, the designers found an interesting way of combining the Queen's portrait (required by law) and a work of art:

She looks at part of Jan Vermeer's View of Delft while the other side of the coin shows the empty frame or the back surrounded by the rest of the painting. Nice concept ...
