A guy responded to my craigslist post regarding miscellaneous coins for my 6 year old son who has caught the bug. Apparently his father was a casual collector in his twilight years before passing a couple years ago. Anyway, he sold me a good stash of rolls for face value for my son to dig through. Any suggestion of what to keep our eyes peeled for would be great. Here's what I got: 72x penny rolls (non-wheat collected since the seller was a kid) 14x wheat penny rolls $21 in unrolled 1950s nickels 14x 1940s nickel rolls (peeked in a couple and there were 3 war nickels in each) 19 Ikes 72 clad kennedys 8x 40% kennedys 49 SBAs 30 Sacagaweas 8x $2 bills 30 or so $1 silver notes
Mark, the "sticky" notes at the beginning of the Roll-searchers, post your results! thread has good info on this. Also the book called "the Red Book" is a great basic tool to start learning about years, mint marks, quantity minted and rough approximate values. In the end, though, what it collect is in the eye of the beholder. Sounds like you and your son will have some good fun together!
