I actually had a 1909 S VDB coin in my collection. The local grocer gave it to me as change. My eyes popped out and he knew it was something and tried to grab it back but I kept it. Sometime later a neighbor's kid and two of his friends (the kid knew we were all working) broke into our home and stole my entire coin collection...copper and silver. It was hidden but he'd been in the house with the kids and knew where it was. They took the coins from their holders (I found them discarded in a field) and went to the movies and spent the entire thing at face value. Another neighbor had seen the kid acting suspiciously and told us and we called the cops and he admitted the theft. He was a minor. I never received a cent back. Now there was a coin collector's setback. Woe is me... and it's funny but I just can't not think of the loss, every time I see a post on a 1909 S VDB penny.
