    The members who said tape, removed adhesive, are correct, imo...the tape protected the coin surface, affected the underlying area and toning remains after removal...seen it many times...Spark

    The lighter colored area is not gold. It's where a piece of scotch tape was used. The remainder of the Cent has toned from being exposed to the air.
