I like them all for sure, but I do like that Aemilian provincial quite a bit.
Here are the emperors filled by you guys so far. 41 Titus 43 Nerva 50 Philip II 77 Clodius Albinus 79 Carausius 80 Herennia Etruscilla 81 Crispina 85 Aelius 91 Allectus 94 Florian 95 Pertinax 97 Herennius Etruscus 103 Procopius 105 Decentius 106 Vetranio 107 Otho 109 Diadumenian (provincial) 117 Antonia 118 Aemilian (provincial) 119 Hostilian (PROVINCIAL SUB) 120 Vabalathus - Vabalathus/Aurelian dual bust. 123 Nero Claudius Drusus 124 Pescennius Niger 128 Marius 133 Magnia Urbica 138 Quietus Ok guys we are up to 126 rulers. Keep em coming!! Rarest Found: 144 Romulus - Gil-galad 168 Tranquillina (PROVINCIAL) - Bing, Gil-galad Very nice Bing and thanks for filling 3 more slots. That Quietus is pretty rough but a decent slot filler. You filled 80 Herennia Etruscilla. I have one that's on the way in the mail maybe next week. I got it for $10. Herennia Etruscilla AR Antoninianus. OBV: HER ESTRVSCILLA AVG, Diademed & draped bust right on crescent. REV: PVDICITA AVG, Pudicitia Seated left holding sceptre & drawing veil from her face. REF: RIC 59b, RSC 19.
We need to remember that Ras' list intended no Provincials and did not count the common Vabalathus/Aurelian. Tranquillina and Diadumenian provincials are relatively common especially if we count the two headed types with Gordian and Macrinus. It might be nice to have a list that included provincials buy we need to beware of sellers using this list to convince beginners to pay too much for something that was not intended. I find it interesting that five of the 11 Caesars made the top 25. Claudius I is more common that Claudius II? Trajan, Hadrian and Pius all beat Gallienus? A lot of this is from market forces rather than absolute rarity. Popular coins sell; coins that sell get offered more often. Going by the list, my next purchases should be Balbinus and Pupienus. I have not seen either that appealed to me for years so I suspect they are most common among the expensive coins.
Stunning!!! But, I LOVE Bing's more since it is far more within my budget, especially if I only restrict myself to one or two coins a month. And I love Doug's post again---and not just because I'm trying to be in his will!!! I guess I'll post my Balbinus again: Don't fret, it's a sellers photo Edited for clarification.
In this thread here, Ras has made a list for Roman Provincial rulers. https://www.cointalk.com/threads/rarity-rankings.256796/#post-2040850 I think it's possible that dealers could use the list to their advantage, yes. Just like some do for old RIC rarity ratings. The ERIC II rarity list has been out for some time now but I have not seen anyone do such a unscrupulous thing yet. Yes, market forces are at work here but then dealers and many dealers collectively have a massive amount of inventory which helps a lot in determining how many coins there are. But in the case of ERIC II list, there are a lot of collectors submitting coins as well. acsearch.info is more market driven than any database that I've ever seen, for example. I've seen a lot of dealers and beginner dealers try to use the prices on that site because many of the prices are quite high. As far as Balbinus and Pupienus goes. I don't foresee getting those anytime soon. To be honest, any coin that is way out of my reach, I ain't worried about it too much. Just like those super rare and richly priced Greek coins. I just window shop for those coins.
Good Gosh, Bing, I think you have a 'thing' for that lady And, I can't resist the temptation: HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!!! ...to all you Mothas' out there---you all know who you are
Orbiana (225 - 227 A.D.) AR Denarius O: SALL BARBIA ORBIANA AVG, draped bust right. R: CONCORDIA AVGG,Concordia seated left holding double cornucopia and patera. Rome 19mm 3.8g RIC IV 319, RSC III 1, BMCRE VI 287, SRCV II 8191
I'm not sure what your budget is Mikey, but, to me at least, this was not a cheap coin. In fact, it is among the five highest priced coins in my collection.
Sorry for the misunderstanding Bing---(See my edit of the post you quoted) I did not mean to imply it was cheap, merely that it was less than four figures and within my sole coin budget of $500 a month
I would be extremely happy to have a $500 a month budget. I might have 10% of that under normal circumstances.
I didn't take offense. It takes a lot more than that to offend me. Just letting you know even this not so pristine coin of Otho is pricey. Way too pricey for this condition, but I needed one for my collection. I wasn't patient enough.
My last one for this evening......another one of my first purchases---A Tet of Nero from Antioch (in hand/practice photo).
