It's all based on statistical information from coins that were submitted to CoinVac and Tantalus, and any other coins Rasiel Saurez has access to. The number of coins submitted so far is really impressive but it is only a small fraction of the coins out there. The original ERIC II rarity list was similar, with the revision and many more coins registered since then, many emperors were readjusted in rank. Here is the post by Valentinian with the updated ERIC II list if you're interested in the statistical information. https://www.cointalk.com/threads/rarity-rankings.256796/ Here are the emperors filled by you guys so far. 41 Titus 43 Nerva 50 Philip II 77 Clodius Albinus 79 Carausius 85 Aelius 91 Allectus 94 Florian 95 Pertinax 97 Herennius Etruscus 119 Hostilian (PROVINCIAL SUB) 124 Pescennius Niger 133 Magnia Urbica Ok guys we are up to 113 rulers. Keep em coming!! Rarest Found: 144 Romulus - Gil-galad 168 Tranquillina (PROVINCIAL) - Gil-galad
Very nice Steve. There are some very easy slots to fill on your set. You could make that 78 go way higher in no time. That's quite a few even still. Your rarest is #132 Julia Titi. You might also consider marking those that you have a provincial for as I have.
Collecting ancient coins never ends, thankfully. But then I can start collecting some really weird coins like you do. lol. just kidding coin friend. But yeah, I have a few weird ones myself.
One of my first purchases before I went on 'sabbatical' and before I was forced to sell most of what I collected---mostly moderns and (GASP) a whole album of about seventy-five ancients---Greek and Roman provincial etc. A practice photo with my new camera of Caligula---the coloring is exactly as shown---a deep chocolate patina embedded with a rough surface.
That is a nice Caligula Vesta reverse coin. I see a lot of pitting and there is some green spots there. Could be BD but only you would know for sure. I suspect it's because of the pitting on other areas of the reverse.
My 'other' Hostillian-- Yep, another practice photo...Hope this doesn't get too tiresome for you guys.
Actually, I think I like this Hostillian a little more than the other. Nice coin!! Yeah, sometimes it's difficult to tell from a photo.
Hmmm, Why do I always love Doug's coins....Especially the Herennius Etruscus and Allectus examples!! I have a bit of Irish in me, perhaps we're related and I should be in your will??!!??
I know a lot of people that like Allectus coins. Because they are rare and better made than most of the former Carausius coins.
Well, if no one has offered an Otho yet, I'll post a couple... (and not using Comic Sans font, either!):
Nice coins IoM. I have an Otho I got from Forum a couple of years ago, but no where near as nice: OTHO AR Denarius OBVERSE: IMP M OTHO CAESAR AVG TR P, bare head right REVERSE: VICTORIA OTHONIS, Victory standing left on globe, wreath extended in right, palm frond in left Struck at Rome, Jan-Feb 69 A.D 3.179g, 18.7mm RIC I 17, BMCRE I 25, SRCV I 2165 var (exergual line instead of globe)
I must have gotten confused as to which list was which or whether you have blue or black since I posted some duplicates. A few others: 81 Crispina 103 Procopius 105 Decentius 106 Vetranio 109 Diadumenian (provincial) 117 Antonia 118 Aemilian (provincial) 123 Nero Claudius Drusus 128 Marius
The first very top list is the one we want to fill. Blue means I have the ruler, green is provincial sub, red is pending but I don't have it in my possession yet. Black means I don't have that ruler. https://www.cointalk.com/threads/eric-ii-rarity-list-100-personal-milestone-celebration.263400/
