I think this is a 1986 D LMC. Not at all sure what happened here, but am leaning towards some sort of strike through. Any help identifying the issues here would be greatly appreciated. 20200205_125106.jpg 20200205_125132.jpg 20200205_125940.jpg 20200205_130000.jpg 20200205_130050.jpg 20200205_130018.jpg 20200205_125519.jpg 20200205_125600.jpg 20200205_125651.jpg 20200205_130214.jpg

That's all damage to the coin,
    after it was in circulation.

You have an anvil die on which the planchet rests and is struck by the hammer die. Please explain how a strikethrough could occur causing so much damage to both sides of the coin. ~ Chris

well, it was hammered that for sure ... just not damaged like that during the minting process.

I have no idea how most errors occur. That is why i ask questions. Each answer teaches a little more.

Looks like it was hit with a sledge hammer or run through a garbage disposal unit.

Sorry Kaye but the coin has been severely beaten up after it left the Mint and you know what that means, PMD.

What I find interesting in those photos, albeit they aren't the clearest, is that none of the zinc substrate under the copper seems to be visible. Definitely raises some questions . . . . . .

    I vote that it was lost on a gravel road . . . . .
