This is the second time I deal with them.

First one was perfectly ok and hope the second one at their last Sunday auction will be ok. Waiting to re dive my coins as between Austria and Belgium the Mail is still not so efficient but ok.

My experiences with Artemide and Naville are good so far. I’ve been dealing with Artemide for several years.

Artemide is one of my favorite auction houses! I have bought a number of coins from them and they are very well regarded. They've allowed me to purchase hi-end coins on layaway and have always be

That is really good news. I've tried to achieve such a result for about 5 years now.
There are still a number of fakes in the auction, but most of them have been eliminated. It will be interesting to see if their main numismatist Dr. Josef Fischer, who is most likely behind the fraud, will remain in office.

    It is not enough

First Numisbids should stop it’s collaboration with Emperion Hambourg as selling so many fakes is criminal offenses not a mistake. I will not use Numisbids still Emperion Hambourg is still on Numisbids and all collectors here should warn Numisbids of that.

secondly all collectors that bought valuable coins from Emperion Hamburg shouldn’t go to check if it is a fake showing here coins they bought or going to meet an expert like AINP ones (I know not easy or impossible actually because of Covid-19) and ask to be reimbursed immediately.

All collectors should sto0 to participate to any Emperion Hamburg auction still they don’t reimburse collectors from the fakes they sale.

Don’t trust any professional associations to help you as the numismatic companies are all linked with each other consignments and interest and it is Omerta even AINP one of the most serious dealer association had trouble with Lantz but Lantz prefered to go out of AINP rather than stop carryon it’s non ethical practice. Only collectors here and other forum can decide to stop that by blacklisting non ethical auctions houses.

Personnaly when I saw in an auction even in top serious auction house like CNG quoting that it was bought by the collector front Lantz I blacklist this coin and I advise you to blacklist all Lantz pedigree coins to avoid the risk to waste your money.

All non ethical auctions houses or dealers must be put out of the business by us the buyers as dealer associations do nothing.

I hate to defend him but FYI Lanz was a well respected dealer for at least 20-30 years. There are many great coins coming in the market from his past auctions. I don't know what got in his head and he turned to the dark side.

For Lanz it is great what you say , how a serious dealer for so many years can turn to be in the dark side ? So it is better to buy coins coming from his auction in the 1980 up to 1990 only and to avoid the coins sold after this period ?

Lanz don’t sell fakes to my knowledge (but I can’t be sure 100 % ) and all what he sell is not bad , the problem is that he sell many tooled very heavily tooled even and don't describe that.

If you are an experienced coins collector and you know what you buy perfectly you can do good deal with Lanz surely but not the other normal collectors.

So it is not ethical actual Lanz business.

Now I don’t think that it is possible to say that a dealer never sold a fake Greek coins as many great expert dealer if not all were fooled by perfect Greek fakes themselves and lost quite big amount. Expensive Greek coins is a risky business for dealers and collectors. We all know dealers that lost money buying fakes Greek coins and honest not to resale them.

I cannot understand either. Like I stated before, if I ran an auction house, I would make sure that my experts would scrutinize all of the consigneed material for fakes/ grade the coins ala CNG standards/ have reliable/ prompt/ friendly service.

For the dark side read the story of Freeman & Sear, which had nothing to do with Sear which just was a legacy issue

Right we should never forget about the story Freeman & Sear that explain a lot about the dark side of numismatic business.

I have informed the German Münzenverband, i.e. the association of coin dealers in Germany about the Emporium fakes. They have asked Emporium for a statement. This statement was forwarded to me. It basically said, "the coins are difficult to identify, but they are all genuine, there is nothing to worry about". This statement satisfied the Münzenverband. Their lawyer told me that the case is closed now.

I took the opportunity to inform the Münzenverband of two other practices of Emporium Hamburg: (1) they misuse literature references and (2) they systematically assign basically unidentifiable coins to rare emperors like Avitus.

to the first point: For example, they systematically use an article by Friedrich Stefan (1925) to legitimize fakes like these.

    Stefan 5

    Stefan 1

If you look up the reference non of the coins will be found, but still, they can even point to individual illustrations in Stefan's article. Stefan (1925) does not discuss, let alone show these coins. In fact, the Gepids never produced such coins. The literature references are bogus. They are intended to give credence to modern fantasy fakes.

to the second point: I argued that coins like the ones below cannot seriously be attributed to Avitus

and coins like this are probably even fake Avitus and Eugenius nummi

I'm curious if the Münzverband will pursue this or not, but I am not particularly optimistic about this.

This Liutprand Tremissis is fantastic. I have three of these 7th/8th century tremisses, an early anonymous one, a Luitprand and a Cunincpert. I will post pictures, once I get them out of the bank vault.
