Might not be completely numbered, but the Mint will probably make aluminum coins quite soon.

I'll believe it when I see it. Cents have cost more to produce than they are worth since the 1970s. Although not worth much, they are backed by some very powerful groups, particularly the mining industry, where the loss of cent coins would mean a significant drop in demand for both copper and zinc. There are businesses that use them, I'm told. If so, cents should be sold to them at cost, whatever that is that month. Sentimentally, I'd hate to see them go; my first introduction to coin collecting was with cents. But realistically, they should either be ended as a denomination or replaced with something cheaper, like aluminum. Other countries have done that for years for their nearly worthless denominations. They could even use plastic like the old sales tax tokens. The mint could stop making them for circulation but continue to make them in special sets like proof sets for those who really wanted them to continue. They could even go back to making them out of 95% copper for these sets, or silver for that matter, and sell them at huge profits, like they do the modern Morgan and Peace silver dollars.

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

Plenty of denominations have been discontinued when they didn't make economic sense anymore. Prime example in this case... The half cent. I wouldn't be sad at all if the one cent coin was sent the way of the dodo

As one can tell by my screen name, it’s what I collect. Over the years I’ve morphed into anything made of copper/ bronze, then added Canadian. At this point the US cent is the only current coin I collect. If it goes away in 2025 I will close out that collection with a total face value of $5.05.

Several truths remain on this issue:

America wants to keep the penny (cent).
Cents need to be made of a durable metal that reflects a worth of one cent.
Copper-plated zinc (CPZ) cents should never have been produced.
Like the half-cent, the cent should be retired if it is no longer viable.

    Also,
If the cent is discontinued, the Dept. of the Treasury needs to send a check for 86 million to me. I promise I would put the money to a good use.

What could Elon possibly know about the penny?

Lots of coins have been discounted, half cents, two and three cent coins, half dimes, and twenty cent pieces. There may be more but why were they discontinued? Rejection by the public, the users. If the cent is discontinued because of costs, then the nickel should be close behind as it cost more to mint a nickel than it’s value.

But then what happens to the $0.99 specials? No penny and no nickel makes for $0.90 specials? Don't count on it! Everything across the spectrum of prices ending in .99 will increase by a bare minimum of 1 cent. That would equate to a ludicrous amount of money really fast.

Having the world's richest person in charge of anything related to government is a terrible idea, particularly the United States government. He got that rich not because he looks out for others but for himself. Any idea he has for "efficency" will almost certainly pad his pockets somehow in some way.

I'm going to step off this soap box before I end up going off course. My point has been made. Thank you for your time, and God bless America.

If they discontinue the penny, just make sure you buy three of the 99-cent specials. The total will be $2.97, it'll be rounded down to $2.95, and you'll come out two cents ahead. STICK IT TO THE MAN!

If you're concerned about rounding issues, I hope you pay very very close attention every time you buy gas. Or does your local station offer tenth-cent tokens in change?

I wouldn't be surprised if Musk leads an effort to get rid of the one-cent coin. Nobody, not even Musk, is intelligent and attentive enough to be wrong every single time.

And how poorly I can compose a sentence. But I can do maths really goodly.

My truck is a thirsty girl and thrives on premium. I certainly pay for it, but what's the point of the big gasser without high octane? Those (9/10ths) fractions of a penny fly by and make that extra little vroom vroom sound lol

But that's 1/10th of a penny. I'm referring to offing that 1 cent in it's entirety. Try to wrap your head around how much money that might equate to in a single day. Probably more than any of us would make in our lifetime.

That song is a family favorite? That sounds a bit "weird", but if you like Al, you could probably love any of his songs.

I've not been listening to him for too long, probably about a month, but I quickly started liking it, and somehow managed to get into the top 1% of listeners for the month on YouTube.

Those songs, though, are teaching me all kinds of sayings! Someone's aggrivating me? Fine, they can "get out of the gene pool". ;)

Elon is in charge of making recommendations. That's all. His ideas, suggestions and recommendations all need to be approved by the Legislative and/or Executive branch. So yes, he's perfect for the job.
