true dat but whats to stop the Chinese from just making an alloy equal to the US morgan dollar? Then what?
True... it makes it un-economic to fake the truly common date ones, but worth it for the middle and higher end.
While coins may be made by the Chinese, they are passed through other foreign bid/buy middle parties to USA where they have the higher demand and prices. Unfortunately many on eBay know darn well they are bad because they bring them in and resell with 'stories' to assure buyers if it is a counterfeit , we didn't know story. Most buyers are happy as they in turn resell to their buddies or some shop where the owner isn't really up to date, and probably only test for silver as determination of real. We probably only see 1% or less of these coins here. Only when someone comes to "Brag" about what a deal they got. Jim
Actually the members that form the ancient's forum have an extensive knowledge base, that one can only get from deep and considerable time used in study and recognition. I seem to recall threads that mentioned that the overall ratio of 'fake' coins were rather high, but to the knowledgeable collectors and dealers they could diagnose them. They also are the ones that can enhance our understanding of ancient history today in modern times. They have been a great asset to the forum since they 'moved' over here. Read their threads, anyone could learn a great deal! Jim
