Edward the Confessor small flan type of Frome. BRIHE or BRINE ON FRO. The moneyer is Brihtwine, but the flan is too small to accommodate anything other than a severely truncated reading. Frome was a royal manor in Saxon times and is a very rare mint with around a dozen coins known spread across a few reigns, most of which are in museums. This coin ex W J Conte, CNG 58 lot 1876 and Lord Stewartby(I) lot 283. When acquired by Conte from Baldwin in 1994 this coin was unique, but a second example from the same dies was dug up in 1995.
