Message:: [QUOTE="Yokozuna, post: 957542, member: 26087"]That was my question in the original post <a href="http://www.cointalk.com/t119436/" class="internalLink ProxyLink" data-proxy-href="http://www.cointalk.com/t119436/">http://www.cointalk.com/t119436/</a>.  I don't know enough about edge lettered coins to call the lettering causing a "wave" on the face of the coin an error.  After my 2nd trip to the bank for rolls I now have 57 Fillmore $1 coins with the edge lettering not centered and 3 coins out of the 57 has the edge lettering pressed deep enough to cause the waves on both obverse and reverse with higher waves on the reverse and slight waves on the obverse.  I also found the lettering to cause 1/2 of the waves on the obverse and 1/2 on the reverse of 22 coins and some coins with only a few stars causing waves on one area of the coin.  About 75% of the coins have the waves on the reverse.   I found: 3 coins with waves on both sides.10 coins with strong waves on one side only that can be felt.15 coins with waves that you can see well, but not feel.22 coins with waves that are on 1/2 of the obv and 1/2 rev.7 with just a few waves (3 or 4) per side. To me, any process or mistake at the mint to make a single coin to differ from the original design would be an error.  If it causes a batch or large number of the coins to have the exact same difference from the original design, I would think it's a variety, BUT because the edge lettering is different on each coin, I'm not sure what I would call these.  That's why I asked if it was just common to the coin.  These 3  have the largest waves.  I set up the reverse photos with the coin turned so that the 2010 D is at the top of each coin.[ATTACH]90844.vB[/ATTACH] Waves on these 3 coins show on both sides, but, as you can see, obverse waves are much smaller.[ATTACH]90845.vB[/ATTACH] Ben[/QUOTE]
