Supposedly, using this feature will get your item on the first few pages of what the potential buyer is looking for. I have found that sometimes it does show up on the first few pages and sometimes it doesn't appear at all. Have any o you found it to be beneficial?
What sort? I've figured that feature was best for generic widgets, or for something that lots and lots of people search for by name.
Okay, I just went off and looked at eBay's listing-promotion features (and other extra-cost options), and it's clearly been a LONG, LONG time since I've paid attention to any of it. I was remembering some sort of "Category Featured" option that cost something like 15 bucks per listing, which of course wouldn't make sense for $25 coins.
I've experimented with it. Everything I sell is pretty low cost so adding the promotion isn't pricey and I thought it was worth a shot. I'll sell a lot of items that say "sold as a promoted listing" in the seller dashboard, but it's impossible to say if that's the reason they sold or if they just happened to be promoted when they sold. I'd love to know if there is a way to determine that. I'd use it all the time if I knew for sure it was generating those sales, but as far as I know it might just be cutting into my profits on something I would have sold anyway.
I refuse to use it. Already pay fees, shouldnt have to pay an extra voluntary one for listings to be seen
I thought I would share my recent experience with promoted listings. I had an offer for a coin which I promoted, I accepted, and they never paid. So, I opened up an unpaid item case. I waited the duration and closed the case. Ebay refunded the final value fees, but not the promoted listing fees. I called ebay this morning when their phone lines opened. The customer service was kind enough to refund my promoted listing fee. When I inquired if this is the normal procedure, the rep told me that the promoted listing fee is not normally refunded upon failure to pay (or returns). I didn't argue with the rep, I have better things to do. I simply won't use this feature again.
I had a number of listings with the "promoted" feature. Sold a couple but withdrew all the rest (after 3 weeks and no sales/offers). Speaking of "offers"; I foresaw a real problem with the promoted listing fees. I was told the higher prompted % your go the more exposure you get. That's all fine and well. However, there is no way of quantifying the "results" ... if by perchance of a search or via promoted exposure. Another issue I had (I dropped all my promoted listings) - and I talked to eBay about this - is that there is no way of telling if an offer came via promoted exposure or via search. That is huge because, when considering an offer ... do you factor the promoted percentage or not. Bottom-line: It's a money maker for eBay and of no value to sellers that are not selling "cookie-cutter" products.
That's my take as well. I'm not a high-volume seller, though, so I'm not speaking from personal experience.
What is the difference between "sponsored" and "promoted"? Sometimes the third and fourth listing [and the last two on the page] are marked "sponsored"; they are an interruption of the "recently listed" date sequence. I consider them a minor nuisance and just ignore them. Are "promoted" the actual ads I sometimes see? [I think my ad blocker kills some of them.] I ignore them too; I figure anyone wiling to pay the fee is planning on making a big profit, most likely at my expense.
