[QUOTE="GDJMSP, post: 1077206, member: 112"]Eye - apparently you had a problem with my refusal to get into a private argument with you about ebay. I refused because in my opinion it wasn't worth the effort. You obviously had your opinions and were not willing to change them. It was also obvious to me that nothing I could say or do would change them, so I instead said OK, you believe what you want and I'll believe what I want.

But there's some things you should probably know about me that you obviously don't know. For instance, I first signed up and started buying coins on ebay on 1998, the year of their birth. I also used to tell just about everybody to use ebay realized sales as a price guide, not the only one but it was always one I suggested. In the first few years ebay was a far, far different place than it is now. For one thing you could actually have some confidence in most of the sellers, and the buyers. People getting ripped off was the exception not the rule. All in all ebay was a good venue for coin buyers and sellers alike.

It was only in later years when what some people call bidiots and I just call idiots began to show up on ebay in huge numbers that I started telling people they should not use ebay as a pricing guide. The reasoning for that is quite simple - people who don't know coins will over-pay for them more times than not. And it is these results that skew the reulting averages.

It got to the point that it was so bad that it was pretty easy to walk into a dealer's shop and buy most coins, and often an even nicer coin, you'd see on ebay for less money than you'd pay on ebay.

Now you're going to say something like well show us the proof or I'm not gonna believe ya. Yeah right, how do I prove that ? But quite honestly I really don't care if you believe me or not. What I write on this forum is very seldom only in response to the person who made the post. Rather what I have to say is most often for th ebenefit of others who may read that given thread. You see I think it is important for members to be able to read another view point, another opinion, epsecially when my opinion happens to differ from the one I respond to.

And no I don't bother to even try to post what you refer to as proof. Do you know why ? Can you even imagine why ? It's because no matter what I post as proof the person on the opposite side just says it doesn't mean anything, or post something else to refute what I have posted and the thing goes on and on. There's never an end to it. End result is it's a waste of time to try and "prove" anything to somebody who doesn't want to listen. People who do want to listen do just that - they listen. And if they listen then they are usually willing to accept what I have to say without me having to "prove" anything.

Do you know why that is ? No, it's not because there's a title under my name that says Administrator and it's not because of my post count. That title is there because the owner of this site put it there and I cannot remove it. I have even asked that it be removed, but it's still there. As for my post count, the only reason that's so high is because I have been a member of this forum since it first began. It's going on 9 years now, and you can wrack up a lot of posts in 9 years. But no, it's not for either of those reasons. People who choose to listen to me do so because of my past hsitory. Because of their personal experience with me, because the things I have said in the past typically prove to be right. But it's not because I proved it to them. It's because they proved it to themselves with their own experiences. You see it's something called trust. Allow people to prove things to themselves enough times and they begin to trust you. of course there's also the point that I have no problem admitting when I am wrong about something either. Members of this forum have seen me do it more than a few times over the years. I'm only human, I make mistakes just like anybody else. And if I make one I admit it. But I'm right far more often than I am ever wrong.

Anyway - I am first and foremost a MEMBER of this forum, just like you. And just because the owner of this forum chose to put the title Admin under my name, and just because I have a high post count - that doesn't mean that I am going to change the way I think or change the things I believe, or change the things I know to be true. I will post whatever I want to post as long as it is within the rules of this forum, just like any other member. I refuse to be limited or told by other members that I can't offer my opinions or that I can't offer facts that contradict other members just because I have the title Admin under my name. So deal with it !

If people want to believe me because of their past experience with me - they can.
