When you return the coin fill the envelope up with glitter, rig it so it goes everywhere.

You're awful Brian. Is that why all your coins are always so dang colorful?

  4. Just an update if anyone is hanging on the edge of their seat.

I opened a case Saturday for item not as described. I didn't hear a peep out of the seller. I come home from work yesterday and there is another package from the seller with the coin pictured in the auction. I sent the seller a message letting them know the coin I wanted had arrived (even though they claimed they only had one) and that I will be sending the other one back today. I haven't heard a single word from them.

I suggest you STILL file a report with eBay bringing attention to this seller's dishonest practices. You could have given him leeway for a "stock photo" until he claimed he only had one (the one he originally sent you), only to have a second one magically appear when you start asking questions.

I would also be very, very wary from the get go about any seller (of coins) who doesn't offer returns. That in and of itself is a big red flag to me, and his behavior after only dug his own hole deeper.

Though we in the thread might not have a "complete picture of everything that happened", I'd still bet that your lovely seller is a cheat. Even though you ended up with your coin, file a report with eBay -- you might just well save the next guy from getting scammed.

I would send it back with signature required and insurance. Then because he was rude I would log a case with E-bay and give him a negative. The way he treated you is exactly how I was treated by one seller. The one and only negative I received and gave. Today I use paypal and a credit card - just to double my protection. PS - I do not think I have bid on any auction that did not offer returns, but if you sell on ebay I think you have to take returns. I know the last coin my father bought it was a no return auction - the seller told him no returns twice. Then he filed a case with ebay and they told him to return it. Then the seller sent another email and said it was okay if he returned it. Then ebay refunded all his money - including shipping.

I don't care for liars. This seller lied to you. And was a jerk about it. I would take BKOZAK33's advice and send him back a random Lincoln cent (remember, the first oen doesn't exist by his own words) and pack that box with confetti and glitter. Mistakes are mistakes and I have made plenty. This guy couldn't even offer an apology, notification he was sending out the coin he magically didn't own...etc.

I would send it back and not sweat this so-called dealer. He is either a scammer or someone with no idea how to execute a simple sale. Either way move on to a more reasonable seller.

I would still leave him negative feedback and warn others

Perhaps the guy noticed he had made a mistake, sent the right coin upon realizing this, and actually feels bad about his treatment of the buyer. Perhaps he didn't realize he in fact had two and now feels like a schmo for acting like a schmuck. Perhaps the guy has been through more than his share of nonsense with buyers and jumped the gun in assuming the OP was the same? While this does not explain nor excuse his lack of contact, the guy stepped up (it seems likely the coin was shipped before the case filed) so all the scam accusations seem a tad unwarranted at this point.

Ladies and gentlemen, the phenomenon of projection.

I don't think this seller is a scammer. I do think he's demonstrated that he's a jerk, either by intentionally lying, or by neglecting to apologize when he discovered his mistake. Being a jerk shouldn't necessarily earn him negative feedback -- but I wouldn't fault anyone for leaving it, under the circumstances. Certainly, I wouldn't want eBay to remain under the impression that he was a five-star seller.

I'd give a negative immediately. Ebay will get your $30 back. I'd already be pi$$ed off over the deal. Then to get rude responses back like that over something that's not a big deal. That'd seal the negative for him immediately from me. You have a kind heart.

Ebay will probably remove the negative if you leave one, even if you follow all stated feedback guidelines. Even though everyone always states how much they favor the buyers they remove a ton of negative feedback for sellers with little reason to do so. If you leave negative I'd check if it's still there in a week or two as it will most likely be gone.

Well, I may have a kind heart...but that's not why I'd still be a little patient here.

    1) I've been wrong before. Many times. I should allow others room to be wrong as well.
    2) Just because someone is rude to me doesn't mean I have to reciprocate. Be the better person.
    3) I don't know the seller's situation. They could be having a rough time with something completely unrelated to coins. No need to start a fight with someone.
    4) Sometimes it is better to learn how to use the system in place properly instead of bashing your head into the rules and hoping they fall in your favor.

Simply return the coin with the appropriate delivery confirmation and ebay will insure that you get your money back including your return postage.

    It's that simple with ebay.

After that, I would leave the seller with a negative feedback simply because he used the word a-----e and then claimed that you were an idiot for not being able to tell that the coin you received was not the same as the coin in the listing.

These are the kinds of sellers that people should know about.

Can you post a picture of what you received and the ebay listing so that folks can see the differences?

DANG! One of these days I'll read the second page before I post!

Never the less, the seller is a bad seller and your feedback should reflect your experience.
