I get where you're coming from Pocket Change. Very valid points and perhaps I did stray. Now for the thousands and thousands of us that don't sell a few million a year we do have VIABLE alternatives. As it turns out I just PMd another member about some currency. I'm getting better connections, it is known and therefore I get more requests. This is where ebay is really shooting itself and has been. Losing the small sellers left and right and some big dogs as well. Big seller? Use ebay for the exposure and pump your own site so you depend less and less upon them. I still surf ebay on occasion. Rarely bid but will tell you this. I buy a lot of my supplies from ebay sellers. Mainly printer cartridges and bubble mailers. Very compative markets there and not much room to misrepresent. AZJack. YOU KNOW how I feel about SGS but I'm not going to condemn a growing site because of it. As far as I know but one seller is offering that crap and has yet to make a sale. There are other sellers there that put up outrageous prices with no pictures. They have no sales either. The "core group" of us "originals" (I believe I was the fourth member) get along just fine. I have actually recommended a few sellers to current customers if they could beat my price. Customer service that works for everyone basically. Overstock is small compared to ebay but Abon has over run it. I've tried it twice now and had enough. NOT because of ABON but because of PATHETIC service to the sellers. Sound familiar? Baby ebay? Lots of possibilities folks and MANY are free. This should appeal to even a multi million dollar seller. Neither Rome nor ebay was built in a day.
In regards to the CoinBug website, there is a function that allows you to use "best offer" similar to what ebay uses. I have just signed up to CoinBug, and I do have the best offer option on my coins. We'll see how it works, but there is an option other than "fixed price," which is good.
Define "bad." Ever see your local car listings? I can't begin to count how many cars have such inflated prices over KBB. Heck, I got a death threat once because I asked a seller if I could get the VIN# to do a quick CarFax check. I found out later the car he sold was a deathtrap and killed it's new owners. Somethign to do with a "Crunchy" Gearbox. Not to mention it had $500 in backtaxes and had a Bank Lien in it's history.
Thanks for the replies- I was seriously just venting - I do hope that someday there will be a marketplace for coins that can truly compete with Ebay- I wont pay the $100 for any reason-I do enough business & our buyers know us well enough not to have 1 bad (or 12) apples spoil the lot out of 10's of thousands of transactions- This is not the 1st Negative nor will it be last the unfortunately- Ill take my lumps if deserved but when it is a mutual decision between the seller & the buyer that Ebay shouldnt be involved AT ALL. Oh, & I did reply to the feedback & stated that they are trying to extort $100 from us to fix it- I have not always ran HCC's sites so there was some things I was not happy with in the past- Im just trying to change that now- It really sucks when your on a roll & things beyond your control stop it- Take care -J Oh, I did relpy to the feedback & stated that they were trying to extort $100 from us to fix the issue-
Thanks Speedy- To clarify - I work for the company ,I dont own it. The amount of business we do on Ebay is tiny compared to our wholesale business ,shows & dealer to dealer sales- Leaving Ebay wouldn't hurt us- it would just make it harder to get rid of some of our less desireable coins or oddball things we buy.
I stopped using Ebay three years ago, and I don't miss it a bit. Fortunnately, I don't have a business that relies on it. I'm not sure they are even aware that they are ruining their business model and exposing themselves to eventual destruction as soon as a competitor figures it out -- and they will.
Well, I just bid on (and am winning) an item through BudGoods site. I will give you glowing remarks when I win. I know this won't make a difference, but it is just the principal of it all.... we need to take care of those who are close to us and shun those who are against us.
With your quite high feedback count, and high percentage it is obvious that you are serious about selling stuff. If I looked at your auctions I would just presume that you occasioned on some anti-social bidiot recently and would merely overlook that. Now lets surmise you have 5 recent feedbags from different fools, then I might think otherwise. I sure wouldn't bother shelling out a monopoly $1 to remove these.
I think everyone here can speak as to the integrity of Jason and HCC. I talk about the bags at times, but I have bought key dates etc from him when available. I can buy a coin on Jasons word, without pics and a hassle..." just ship it", I cannot say that I do that type of buying from just anybody.
