Boycotting ebay is a joke. The last one was a total failure because the boycotting sellers simply doubled their listings the week before the boycott, so although they weren't listing they were still selling during the strike. Nobody likes fee increases but when a seller considers how much $$$ they make off ebay and the number of people that use it compared to other sites, then.... At this point nobody has proven to me that there IS a better alternative yet.
From what I have read, The boycott will be for more than just a day. I hope people will not just list more items before or after, and I hope enough people will do this to get noticed. I think if ebay lowered thier fees again they would have more sellers so they would still make enough money. They are just one of many companies that equate higher prices to higher profits. Where I live all you have to do is look at all the small car dealers going out of business. They think they have to make a killing on every car they sell. The biggest deallers realize the came make more money selling more cars at less profit. I saw this phrase used numberous times on the blogs, " boycott victoriously " Let's all pick a weekend and stay home, read books and stay off the bay. My 2 cents, keep it or leave it in the change tray.
I have already noticed one big thing. Ebayers pay quick. I have had 2 cancelations on orders on the site, both state " checks in the mail, payment sent today".......than a week later, I get an email " can't afford it this month, sorry " LOL. The CT'ers have been great, tho, no problem with anybody here at all. It's the "strangers" lol !!!!!
I gave up selling on eBay on 2005. Believe it or not, I am considering a brief return to sell a few things (not coin related) since I'm seeing that the largest net proceeds I could get is from there. No, I don't like it...
It seems all paypal transactions go perfect, on my site and on my ebay. It's those check/MO orders that slow to a crawl ( YES CLEMBO, payment has been mailed , you NON paypal'er, lol)
Hey Jack, I wanted to let you Know I visited your site and was impressed. Nice pics and easy to navigate. If I am ever in the market for Lincolns, I will see you first for sure.
Poor sellers and their retaliatory Feedback is one reason the system is going through this transformation. And now they're at it again. Don't people consider that their actions is what prompts such changes? I was just reading the ebay feedback forums and now angry sellers are planning a new strategy (one which I'm sure will force ebay to make even more changes). Some sellers are openly stating that they may take legal action against buyers who leave a negative feedback. Can they do it? Yes they can! Most are planning to use it as a scare tactic but some have stated that they will indeed pursue it if necessary. So I guess if you ever leave a negative in the future, be sure it is deserved and be very careful what you say. maybe this is another method of boycott. Threaten and scare the buyers enough that they will quit using ebay or be afraid, once again, to leave appropriate FB.
I don't have a problem with the new feedback system (yet). I think it may help bring out more honest feedback that people may have been afraid to leave in the past. it should stop feedback blackmail.
Not to mention there is no "legal course" sellers can persue that will get them anywhere. It's not defaming or slander when the tools used are those provided by a service. You don't see anyone sueing Consumer Reports. Guy~
How cn it stop feedback blackmail when unscrupulous buyers can threaten to neg a seller unless he gives them a kickback on the priceand the seller has only two feedback options on the buyer, no feedback or positive feedback. Now that the seller won't be able to leave negative feedback I think feedback blackmail will boom
If some one sent me a message about anything of the sort, it would get forwarded to ebay and the transation canceled.
As a long time seller on ebay, I was part of boycott some weeks back. I held back my auction listings, & like a fool I lost big bucks ... Those that did list had little/no competition and there items sold for record high prices. IMOP,changes in feedback will hurt ebay worse than fee increase. It's difficult to determine results of boycott, as summer months now approaching, always a slow down in sells. Sorry to babble on the coin forum, I can relate in that I only sell bullion , low grade, & cull coins on ebay with good results. Coin hobbyist, ozarktravler
Anybody trying to use the feedback as leverage will be NARU'd, ebay has announced they will police the new policy to stop abuse like that. Dirtbag sellers will get the feedback they deserve, and good sellers may take a few hits as well, but the days of folks like Abon and keydate roll stuffers having feedback in the high 90's will be over. Ebay policy also states feedback below 95 is a reason to get perma banned, but I do not know if that will change. If your a shyster, fear the changes, if your not, welcome the changes, it will seperate you from the crooks.
