However there are some areas where I notice NGC gets more favoritism than PCGS (such as in certain world coins, but not all). I will say this, PCGS has shown me to be consistently worse at grading modern coins. I can&#039;t imagine modern coins go through 3 graders and then a final inspection. If that is the case then they better send all their modern coin graders to get an eye exam.</p><p><br /></p><p>I believe they have such high volume that they just send modern coins (especially those still in mint packaging) straight to the QC guy (or goes through 1 grader only). I really notice their low quality control in modern proof coins. My guess is that these are the ones that mostly arrive in sealed mint packaging. PCGS is most probably taking a leap of faith that these proof coins are all 69 or 70 and don&#039;t bother to give them a good look over. Unless something really bad stands out then they pull it out of line and insert it into their normal 3-grader-process. Even still some of these really bad ones get through with too much frequency, in my opinion.</p><p><br /></p><p>At the end of the day it&#039;s become just another big business and the TPG&#039;s are looking to keep their big clients happy.
