Yeah I don't know just seems odd to me, although hopefully it is as OP stated as that's a cherry pick of a lifetime.

Must say though I probably wouldn't have posted about it on a forum and used my real name as my forum name though. It takes about 10 seconds to identify someone using the information OP has already put out there. I may just be a pessimist and quite cynical but almost a decade in loss prevention tends to leaves one that way.

The majority of new members around here seem to have no concept of online security - they apparently even post their faces as avatars - and little idea of how online communities work.

I agree completely. I hope the OP did well and this is the real McCoy.

To add fuel to the fire, people on the pcgs board are questioning if pcgs made a mistake... most think it is not a proof.

The Matte Proof cartel NEVER thinks any exist outside their knowledge.

Messydesk and Robec are members here and both seem to have questions.

Don't hide. Go all the way and call them out.

    Card-carrying cartel members, are they?

I don't see one diagnostic that shows this to be a VDB MPL. On top of that the rims are rounded, not square and sharp as MPL's have.

I believe Brian was correct saying this was not a Proof.

These diagnostics are missing on this new "find"

Die scratches to the right of Abe's nose
    [IMG]

Curved die scratch radiating from the top of the B in LIBERTY
    [IMG] [IMG]

Crescent shaped die gouge to the right of the M in UNUM.

Compare the sharp edged rim of a VDB MPL with the rounded rim or the OP coin

What do you mean don't hide? I'm not calling anyone out, and I'm not NOT calling anyone out, lol. Just interesting that there is now debate on whether it is or isn't. If I was the OP I would be selling quickly though.

Not a cartel member, but since all documented VDB MPL's have the same diagnostics it stands to reason this one would if it's an MPL.

...or just wait for the buyback from pcgs..?
This is a lot more excitement than I expected from the coin forum today. Most days are just more "no that's PMD".

Isn't it more likely they simply call it a mechanical error and offer to re-holder free of charge if it truly isn't a proof?

Nope. I don't even have any matte proof Lincolns in my collection. I just want to know why I can't see the little mark by the M.

Man I hope this works out for the OP. It would suck thinking you just made out like a bandit, only to find out pcgs made a mistake.

If he did actually win this coin, I don't think he's out anything. A beautiful VDB like this is still worth over 56 bucks no?

I want this to be the real deal very badly. Bummer that there is so many doubts. I love a great treasure find!

Indeed. I would have sold the coin immediately, paid the taxman and banked the rest and then perhaps make a thread regarding the pick lol.
