Hey, I understand what you're saying. I can't blame you for wanting to learn more. But really, what else is there to say concerning this specific coin? It's an online auction with relatively poor pictures. It just looks like a dark coin that was not photographed well. Edit: I re-looked at it and admit the pics aren't that bad. I guess there was enough there to judge it. Maybe you're right that we should have analyzed the coin further. He may not have sent it in because it apparently has surface damage and would not grade. I still think it would be worth submitting for authentication though. I know there are fake slabs but they are identifiable. You can also look up serial numbers and compare features with pictures online. The TPGs are third parties who don't care if a coin is real, fake or how high it grades. That's worth a lot to me. Try telling a seller their coin is fake or not as high of a grade. Do you really want that battle? Because you'll never be right, even if you are.
I've never sold on eBay, but I had the impression that eBay charges for each picture. Is that true? If so, how much did this guy invest to post this auction? Usually, I see a Sellers post a few pics and will email more upon request.
Well, given the high value of the product being sold, I see where spending the extra $10 to make sure there's enough pictures to make a buying assessment makes sense. I think it might be real, but to plead his case, he needs to stop his other fake Gobrecht listing and revamp his current listing for the real deal. Changing to a regular "auction" style listing will help validate the rarity of his singular coin, I think collectors were and still are scratching their heads one the dutch 10 or more available option.
I'm not sure if I counted correctly, but I came up with 52 pictures...how much does that cost? ...and wouldn't the pictures be better if they weren't taken through the plastic of a 5¢ 2x2?
There's programs that higher volume sellers can purchase to load all their pics on. Then attach it to their ebay auction as if they were one picture. I don't know if that's what this guy used but it's allowed.
Doh! My bad, didn't see the stars on reverse. Thats what I get for trying to keep up with forum posts on my phone! Guy
It cost more if you host the images through eBay. If you host them through an outside site, say like photobucket, and insert the HTML code into the description section of your auction you can have as many images as you want at no charge.
thanks for at least conceding my point. still interested if this coin is real or fake. i still think it is real since most of his other stuff looks legit to me and he has over a thousand sales. however, i'm certainly not encouraging anyone to buy this coin. it is way overpriced and is in really terrible condition.
