I had a situation like this for a non-coin purchase on eBay a few weeks back. It was a seller I've bought from several times in the past, also. Tracking number was issued the same evening I made the purchase, but the tracking never showed the item made it to the PO. After the expected delivery date passed, I did something at eBay (forget what it was, but not opening a case - it was like a preliminary step to that) and within 2 days they finally did ship the item.
Yeah something seemed weird about the whole thing , couple days after I contacted him the second time it all the sudden showed it was accepted .. Then it only took 3 days to get here. It could have been the post office , I gave the guy 5 star feedback even though it took way longer than it should .. Honestly I think the guy was sitting on the coin hoping I would cancel , I believe he expected it to sell a bit higher than it did ! The coin is beautifully toned , I didn't even know myself how nice the coin was as his photos didn't do the coin justice .. I believe if he would have had better photos he probably would have got more for the coin , even though it's a common date AU buffalo I think he expected more of a premium for the rainbow toning ... Despite what the truth may be I gave him benefit of the doubt and I did receive the coin so I'm happy !
Could have been an honest mistake at first. Have a pile of packages on the car seat and one slides off. You drop the rest of the pile into the box and go about your way thinking you mailed everything. Then one day you open the passenger door and see a parcel sitting there between the seat and the door. <shrug> Coulda happened like that. But I would have let you know that once I discovered it. Rob
I've personally had this problem on numerous occasions where the seller ships without "signature confirmation" (which I've found to be normal even on coins with a 4 figure value). With the reduction in postal personnel, and the employees being informed that scanning isn't a job requirement but a postal courtesy, I've found a call to the local postmaster necessary. I've had your condition exist for weeks, and once for the complete eBay "time-out" period, before eBay would refund my payment. I've found the call to my local P.O. useful, and suggest you might do same. JMHO
Your right it very well could have been an honest mistake by the seller or possibly one of the postaloffice employees .. That's why I left the seller 5 star feedback , just incase it was something that was out of his hands or as you said a honest mistake .. I know eBay sellers have it hard enough !
It is certainly possible... petty, but possible. Regardless of what the real reason was though, I give you a lot of credit for taking the high road. Hopefully the guy sees/realizes and appreciates it. Even though all turned out well, there is a lesson for him to be learned here; if not, the next buyer may not be so forgiving.
